When you overhear his conversation.
You were currently folding the laundry and placing it in the laundry basket. Before you could leave the room while carrying it, you slowed down when you heard Heeseung's conversation over the phone. His words froze you in your tracks.
"Yeah, I know she can be a bit clingy sometimes," Heeseung said.
Your heart sank. Without hearing the rest of the conversation, you left the room, your mind racing. You walked into the bedroom and sat on the bed, crossing your legs and arms, staring blankly at the wall. You thought about how you were only clingy once in a while. Was it really too much?
A couple of minutes later, Heeseung walked in, looking cheerful. "Hey, we have to go to Jungwon's party tonight. You should start getting ready."
"I can't go," you replied flatly.
Heeseung's smile faded. "Why not? Are you sick?"
"I'm on my period," you lied, hoping he would drop the subject.
Heeseung raised an eyebrow. "You already had your period this month."
You threw your hands up in frustration. "Fine, I'll get dressed."
As you got ready, you felt Heeseung's eyes on you, watching your every move. You aggressively tied the strap on your heels, your irritation clear. Heeseung knelt down, gently taking your hands away and tying the strap for you. Your heart beat faster at his touch, but it only reminded you of your perceived clinginess.
"Thank you," you mumbled, avoiding his gaze.
Heeseung stood up, looking concerned. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything's fine," you said, but the tension in your voice was evident.
You walked out of the apartment with Heeseung following. The drive to Jungwon's party was silent, with you lost in your thoughts, trying to figure out how to stop being so clingy.
When you arrived, you reached for the car door, but it didn't open. The car door had locked. You waited a few seconds before turning to Heeseung. "Can you unlock the door?"
Heeseung shook his head. "No one is leaving this car until we talk about your behavior."
You sighed. "I'm acting normal."
Heeseung looked at you, his eyes full of concern. "No, you're not. What's going on?"
You took a deep breath, finally deciding to spill it. "I overheard your conversation with Jungwon earlier. I know I'm clingy. You don't need to tell everyone."
Heeseung smiled a little and tried to explain. "It's not what you think—"
You interrupted him, your frustration boiling over. "I know I have faults, but you didn't have to tell everyone about it because I have—"
Heeseung gently clamped his hand over your mouth. "Please, listen to me."
You looked at him, your eyes searching his for any hint of dishonesty.
Heeseung sighed, his expression softening. "The only reason I told Jungwon that you were clingy was because he asked me what it was like to be with someone who actually cares. He's been feeling lonely, and I told him how much I love it when you're affectionate. I love it when I come home from practice, and you hug me like a baby koala."
You shook your head, tears welling up. "I don't believe you. You sounded so... annoyed."
Heeseung cupped your face in his hands, his thumbs gently wiping away the tears. "I promise you, I wasn't annoyed. I was bragging. I love how you cling to me because it makes me feel loved and wanted. I'm sorry if it came out wrong."
"But... what if it's too much?" you whispered.
Heeseung pulled you into a tight embrace. "It's never too much. I love you just the way you are. Don't ever change."
You buried your face in his chest, feeling the weight of your worries lift. "I'm sorry for being so sensitive."
Heeseung kissed the top of your head. "You have nothing to apologize for. I should've been more careful with my words."
You pulled back slightly, looking up at him. "So, you really don't mind my clinginess?"
Heeseung shook his head, smiling warmly. "Not at all. In fact, I wouldn't have it any other way."
You felt a sense of relief wash over you. "Thank you, Heeseung."
Heeseung unlocked the car doors. "Come on, let's go to the party. But if you still don't feel up to it, we can stay in and watch movies. Your choice."
You thought for a moment, then smiled. "Let's go to the party. I want to show off my amazing boyfriend."
Heeseung grinned, taking your hand as you both got out of the car. "That's my girl."
As you walked towards Jungwon's house, hand in hand, you felt a renewed sense of confidence. No matter what anyone else thought, you knew that Heeseung loved you for who you were, and that was all that mattered.
