Langa didn’t give Reki a fist bump this time; instead, he hugged him. It was a bit surprising, but Reki didn’t mind.

Then Langa quickly let go. "Reki, did you see that? I won!"

"Yeah, I saw," Reki said, smiling this time.

But it was always like this: Langa always won, so Reki never had to worry about seeing Langa sad after a race. Not like himself. Reki felt that familiar sting of jealousy, knowing he wasn’t as good as Langa. But he quickly pushed the thought away.

Reki glanced to the side and heard a voice he knew all too well. It was exactly the guy he didn’t want to see today, but fate wasn’t on Reki’s side.

Adam.

Of all days, he had to show up today.

"Snow, you were wonderful," Adam said, clapping in his peculiar way. Reki immediately made an annoyed face.

Reki’s opinion of Adam was clear: a weird but also disgusting guy.

Langa, on the other hand, stood still and said nothing to Adam, as he usually did. It was a good reaction, definitely, but that didn’t deter Adam. In fact, Langa’s "cold attitude" probably excited him even more.

"I brought you something again, Snow," Adam said, holding out a huge bouquet of flowers to Langa. It made Reki feel sick.

Langa took it but wasn’t happy. For a moment, Reki wanted to grab the bouquet and hit Adam with it, but that would be too violent. He would deserve it, though.

Everyone else’s attention was now on them, and Reki felt uncomfortable.

Adam then looked at Reki with a nasty gaze.

And Reki really could have hit him.

"Hey Langa, let’s not stay with this weirdo," Reki whispered.

Langa nodded, and they were about to turn and leave when Adam said, "Snow, don’t you want to watch my race?"

"Your race? As far as I know, I have a race with Shadow coming up," Reki said almost arrogantly. He looked over at Shadow to check if the bet was still on, and Shadow gave him a thumbs up.

He wasn’t giving Adam the attention he wanted. He’d do anything to annoy him.

Adam clicked his tongue, gave Reki a definitely angry look, and walked away. It was a miracle he accepted it so easily.

Reki didn’t dwell on it and turned around too.

"A race? Why didn’t you tell me?" Langa asked, surprised.

Reki looked at Langa and walked over to whisper in his ear. "I didn’t plan on racing, but because of Adam. He doesn’t deserve any attention."

Langa laughed and turned to Reki, but their faces were too close together, and they both jumped back. Langa’s cheeks turned a little red, and so did Reki’s.

"Well, anyway, I’m going to win," Reki said, smiling.

Reki and Langa slowly walked to the starting point of the race.

He and Shadow both grabbed their skateboards and took their positions.

"Ready, set, go!"

And so they skated down the course. Reki was doing well; everything was fine

until the middle of the race.

He was skating too fast, pushing his skateboard too hard and going very fast, but way too fast.
