Avery's POV
They kept talking about the surgery and its possible outcome which is the permanent memory loss. I've been thinking about this since we were in the car on our way back to the hotel from the hospital.
I've been listening to them for a while now, and they all want me to go ahead with my surgery next week.
I wiped my tears away and spoke up, making them stop talking. "I won't undergo surgery."
They were surprised by what I said. Now, all of them were looking at me. I just stared at my hands on the table, shaking.
Ruth looked at me with worry and disbelief. "Avery, why? You need this surgery to have a chance at a longer and healthier life," she pleaded softly, her voice filled with desperation.
I wiped away my tears again, trying to steady my voice. "I-I know, but I don't want to have the surgery."
Ruth reached out, placing her hand on my trembling hands. "Why don't you want to? We've been waiting for this surgery so that your illness can finally be cured."
I couldn't take it anymore and burst into tears. "I can't... I can't risk losing my memories," I said, my voice breaking.
I could see the concern on their faces. Caleb, Mark, and Lucas looked away from me. I knew they were struggling because of me.
Even Mark was teary-eyed. "Avery, we understand how scary this is. But you need to consider the risks versus the potential benefits. Dr. Michaels said the surgery has a high chance of success."
Caleb spoke up, his voice firm. "You're strong, Avery. We've seen you overcome so much already. Don't let fear stop you from doing what's necessary."
Lucas added quietly, "We're all here for you, Avery. If you lose your memory after the surgery, we'll help you remember who you are and who we are."
"It won't be easy. I'll be a different person once I lose my memories," I said. It's extremely painful for me to think about. Hindi naman nila ako maiintindihan dahil hindi naman sila yung may sakit at wala sila sa posisyon ko.
Tyler spoke next, his eyes pleading. "Avery, please reconsider. We can't let fear dictate our decisions. Trust Dr. Michaels and trust us to help you through this."
"Do you want me to have the surgery so I can forget about your plan for a divorce agreement, right?" I looked at him now. He surely wants that so I forget his plan.
"What? No, it's not like that," he quickly replied. I could see from his eyes that he was hurt.
"What divorce agreement?" Ruth asked, confused.
Lucas placed his hand on her shoulder. "I'll explain everything to you later." He whispered.
Kita ko pa rin ang pagkalito sa mukha ni Ruth pero hindi na ulit ito nagtanong.
"I just want you to live, that's why we went to New York so your illness could be treated," Tyler said.
"As for the divorce, when did you plan that?" I didn't take my eyes off him. Since, nagpag-usapan na. Mas mabuti na itanong ko na sa kanya.
I could feel our friends looking back and forth between us. They sighed at what they were seeing. Tyler's friends surely knew about this because they weren't reacting.
"It's true, I really planned it before we got married. I planned to divorce you when your parents' company was fixed. But I wasn't thinking clearly at that time, when I was with you and Tyrone came into our lives, my thoughts changed, I just want to be with both of you." Tyler said and I saw the sadness on his face.
