The grand hall of Aurea was filled with the sound of jubilant celebration as nobles and commoners alike gathered to witness my coronation. It was a day of great importance, not just for me, but for the entire kingdom. As part of the festivities, an open court was held—a chance for the people to bring their concerns before their new king.

I took my place on the throne, the weight of the crown resting lightly on my head, yet the responsibility it symbolized felt immense. Aurora Faye, my best friend and trusted Hand, stood by my side, her calm presence a source of comfort. My mother, Queen Elara Wyllt, or former queen, was nearby, her gaze steady and reassuring.

The first petitioner, a frail old man, stepped forward, his voice quavering as he spoke of a drought that had plagued his village for months.

"Your Majesty, our crops are failing, and we fear the coming winter. Is there any aid you can offer us?"

I leaned forward, my expression thoughtful. "I will send water mages to your village immediately, and we will distribute supplies from the royal granaries to ensure your people do not go hungry.  Rest assured, Aurea takes care of its own."

The man's eyes filled with gratitude as he bowed deeply. "Thank you, Your Majesty."

The next petitioner was a woman of middle age, her face lined with worry. "Your Majesty, there is unrest in our town due to a dispute over land ownership. It threatens to divide our community."

I nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.   "I will send an envoy to mediate the dispute and ensure that a fair resolution is reached. Unity is the strength of Aurea, and we will not allow division to weaken us."

The woman's relief was palpable as she curtsied. "Thank you, Your Majesty. You have our eternal gratitude."

As the third petitioner stepped forward, the atmosphere in the hall shifted. He was a young man, his presence commanding and his bearing noble. His dark hair and intense gaze marked him as someone of great importance. He introduced himself with a formal bow.

"Your Majesty, I am Jacaerys Velaryon, Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne."

A murmur of surprise rippled through the audience. I motioned for him to continue.

"I come before you to ask for Aurea's assistance in the war for Queen Rhaenyra's rightful claim to the Iron Throne. Our cause is just, and we seek your support."

I met his gaze steadily. "Aurea recognizes no queen, Prince Jacaerys. We bow to no one, for I am the ruler of this land. However, if we were to consider aiding your cause, what would you offer in return?"

Jacaerys did not hesitate. "I offer myself, in marriage. An alliance through marriage would unite Aurea and Dragonstone, strengthening both our realms."

Aurora leaned in, her voice a soft whisper. "This is an unprecedented proposal, Mylo."

My mother's voice was firmer. "Consider this carefully, my son."

I nodded, acknowledging their counsel. "Your proposal is intriguing, Prince Jacaerys, but my sister Mia is already promised to another."

A small smile played on Jacaerys' lips. "I was not speaking of your sister."

I raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Then whom?"

  "You."

The single word hung in the air, the hall falling into a stunned silence. Gasps and whispers filled the room as everyone processed the boldness of his offer. My heart pounded in my chest as I struggled to maintain a composed exterior.

Aurora's eyes widened in surprise, and my mother's expression was a mix of shock and contemplation. The audience's reactions ranged from astonishment to curiosity, all eyes now fixed on us.

I took a deep breath, my mind racing with the implications of such a proposal. The political advantages were undeniable, but the personal implications were far more complex. This was not a decision to be made lightly.

As the hall buzzed with the unexpected turn of events, I found myself at a crossroads, the weight of the moment pressing down on me. Jacaerys stood before me, his gaze unwavering, waiting for my response.

And in that instant, I realized that my decision would shape the future of Aurea and its place in the wider world.
