Rengoku watched the mourners file past the coffin and pay their final respects. He couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness inside. He had dedicated his life to his duties as a demon slayer, and it had cost him dearly. Now, his little brother was gone, and he was left behind to mourn.
The other hashira were present, but they kept their distance from Rengoku. They knew he was struggling with guilt and grief.
It angered Rengoku a little bit that his father Shinjuro wasn't there at he funeral. So Rengoku went back home after the funeral. "..I'll just continue my duty as the fire pillar," Rengoku said to himself as he'd sigh. The guilt of him being the cause of his little brothers death was chipping away at his sanity..
The days passed by, filled with the monotony of Rengoku's duties as the flame hashira. He trained his tsugukos and occasionally spoke to his best friend, Tengen, the sound hashira.
Rengoku was trying his best to push aside his grief and guilt, but it was a constant weight on his shoulders. He threw himself even further into his training, pushing himself to the limit in an attempt to silence the thoughts that crowded his mind.
