Aaliyah's POV
Manning's Hill, Constant Spring
7:45 p.m.
Staring over at my niece, I smiled as I waited for my sister to come out of the bathroom so I could go over. She squirmed around a bit and I moved closer to her. I lightly brushed my finger against her hair which Leandra had combed earlier and she just stared at me.
Aarya-Marie Emilia Singh.
Next week Friday she'll be three months old and unfortunately, I won't be here to watch her grow up.
So much has happened since Demetri told me he was leaving for university this September. I was happy for him but wondered what that meant for our relationship.
He told me that he was willing to go about it however I wanted to. I didn't want to ask him to stay so I forced myself to say we should have a long-distance relationship. Listening to him telling me ways we could maintain our relationship while he was overseas was even harder.
Demetri disclosed that information back in December. By March, my parents told me they wanted to have a serious conversation with me. We sat down in the living room and then Mommy asked me what I thought about migrating.
For ten minutes, I just stared at them in utter shock and then I asked what they meant by migrating. As far as I know, I didn't have a Visa so how would that be possible? Instead, they started to explain that for my first year there I'd just have to occupy myself and then apply for universities for the second year.
Eventually, they revealed that Demetri brought the idea to them and they thought it through. At first, I was a bit hesitant because I knew my father's health but they assured me that it was okay. I mean, it's not like Daddy's diabetes is that bad but I like monitoring him to make sure everything is well with him.
He works hard and sometimes he forgets to eat or whatever. I don't like that but he said he will make sure to do that. With Leandra being busy with her baby and Mommy working, I have to check in on him to make sure he is doing what he is supposed to do.
The man have a wife fi that eno, Miss.
So Mommy keeps reminding me. It just nuh make me worry but I guess they're right.
After a week of thinking about it, I've decided to go. For the experience among other things. It's not like my parents are unable to take care of themselves, but I felt at ease doing it. As if they really wanted me to go, one day I came home and saw Daddy making his own juice.
Besides, Leandra started to help wherever she could and has also been more involved. She's now living with Kian permanently and they got married. We only found out one Saturday evening when she and Kian came to talk to our parents about the small ceremony taking place the next day in church.
They had talked it over and wanted us to be there as witnesses and her family of course.
As long as they are happy, nothing matters. They both seemed to be anyway and I'm happy for them. From what I've seen, Kian is doing well as a parent and a husband. By far, his favorite part of the day is when he comes home and spends time with his family.
Of course, everyone has their flaws and has made mistakes, but I'd consider them perfect in their own way. Kian never put out any effort to this extent when he thought Gina was pregnant with their child.
Now he has become a husband, father, provider, and protector in his family and he seems very happy with that role.
At least from where I'm seated. I just hope they don't mess things up and talk out their issues like adults.
