I sat in the garden watching those Stars I'm pointing out constellations with aaron, he was talking to me about the palace about everything. " your family wasn't always the ruler of Althea?" I asked I'm sure if I had heard him correctly
" no, there was a different family in charge, my family was second in command. but they were bad people, they did bad things so we took over"
" what were their names?"
Aaron glanced at the stars for a moment, as if searching for the right words among them. He seemed thoughtful, his usual confidence giving way to a more pensive demeanor.
"They were the Dawnfire family," he finally said. "They ruled Althea for generations, but their reign was marked by cruelty and oppression. They abused their power, exploiting the people and the land for their own gain."
I listened intently, intrigued by this part of Althea's history I hadn't known. "How did your family come to power?"
Aaron's expression darkened slightly. "My ancestors led a rebellion against the Dawnfire family. It was a difficult and bloody struggle, but in the end, they succeeded. The people of Althea chose my family to lead them, believing we would bring a more just and fair rule."
He paused, his eyes reflecting a mix of pride and regret. "We've done our best to live up to that trust, but the scars of the past run deep. There are still those who remember the Dawnfire's rule and fear history repeating itself."
I reached out, squeezing his hand gently. "Your family has done a lot of good, Aaron. You've brought stability and prosperity to Althea. People trust you."
He smiled at me, the warmth returning to his eyes. "Thank you, Blair. Your belief in me means everything."
As we continued to watch the stars, I couldn't help but feel a deeper connection to Aaron, knowing more about his family's past and the burdens he carried. It made me even more determined to stand by his side, to face whatever challenges lay ahead together.
Then I felt the splash of something wet on my face, before I felt it all over my body, it was raining. I stood up smiling and reached out for Aaron to grab my hand. " dance with me?" his eyes were focused on something else though my dress, it was white so I had assumed that he was staring at me because it probably was going to turn see through.
" you're bleeding" he stated as he just turned down towards my dress, I glanced and noticed I was. but I wasn't hurt. my period, it had started. I looked back at his face and saw disappointment in a bit of anger,
" I'm fine" I reassured him as I took a step back and lowered my hand.
" you're not pregnant," he said and I could hear the anger in his voice, why was he so upset about that? guilt ate at me I thought about the fact I could never bear his children, I was mortal. but he couldn't know that not yet.
I felt my stomach twist at Aaron's words. The rain continued to pour, washing away the night's serenity and replacing it with a rising tension. His eyes, usually filled with love and warmth, were now clouded with frustration and disappointment.
"Aaron, I'm sorry," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I didn't mean to upset you."
He took a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. "It's not your fault, Blair. I just... I had hoped, that's all."
I nodded, understanding his unspoken wish for a future that seemed so simple yet felt so far out of reach. "I understand," I whispered, feeling a pang of guilt. "But it's okay. We'll figure things out together."
He looked at me, his expression softening slightly. "I know, but it's hard. I've always imagined us having a family."
The weight of my secret pressed heavily on me, but I couldn't bring myself to tell him, not yet. I couldn't bear the thought of losing him or seeing that disappointment turn into something worse.
