A month later
I rushed through the door, the scent of maa's tea lingering in the air.
"Good morning, maa, I'm leaving for the office. I have a meeting," I called out as I grabbed my coat.
"Arey, wait, have you breakfast, beta." she asked, concern etched in her voice.
I didn't have the time. "No, I'm getting late. I love you," I said quickly, rushing out.
Maa didn't let up, but I was already at the gate, stopping my driver before he could open it. "I'll drive,"
As I reached the building, my guards were already waiting for me, their faces tense.
"Mam, he's inside. He's the son of Haryana's CM. It might create problems for us," one of the guards said.
"Handle it," I replied, my voice cold.
Inside, the sight of the man, beaten and bound, greeted me. His face swollen, blood dripping from his mouth.
"Welcome to India, Demari," I said to my most trusted man.
"How are you, ma'am?" Demari asked, bowing his head slightly, a rare sign of respect.
"Good," I said, my eyes scanning the bloodied figure in front of me. "What's the progress?"
"He's not talking," Demari replied, his voice hard.
I sighed, moving toward the man, grabbing his hair roughly, forcing his head back to face me. "You like suffering, don't you? Just answer one simple question. Who's supporting you? Who's involved in the shipment?" I asked, my voice low but edged with danger.
He spit out blood. "Why do you care? Aren't you the daughter of Mr. Rajvansh, the one who was sol....?"
I didn't let him compete his sentence. "Oh, you recognize me? Good. Now make it easy for yourself. Tell me the damn name."
He winced, his voice rising with panic. "They'll kill my family."
I stepped closer, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "First of all, keep your voice low. And second, now you care about your family? What about the families of those girls? The children, the women you sold and ripped of their skin for money? People like you deserve to rot."
Demari looked at me, waiting for my order. "Let's start. Show me your slaughtering skills Demari. Begin with his fingers."
I sat back in a chair, my gaze fixed on the broken man.
A scream filled the room, and I didn't flinch. "Tsk, tsk. Losing a finger and you scream like this? Think about the women and children who lose their entire selves every day, their bodies, their will to live."
He gritted his teeth, defiant. "Those children and women are just roadside beggars, maybe from middle-class. Their lives don't matter."
His words hit me like a slap. "Their lives matter!" I shouted, a calm fury building inside me.
