Vineet Papa had left us alone. After him, it was just me, my father, and my brother.
"What is it, Papa?" I asked, knowing full well he wasn't the kind of man to visit his daughter without a reason. There had to be something more.
"Your grandfather transferred all his properties to you before dying," he said bluntly.
"I know," I replied calmly. "His lawyer contacted me years ago."
"I want my father's property back," he said.
"Why?" I asked, my tone steady, though my insides were twisting.
"Because it's my right," he snapped.
"Aur iska ka bhi hai," Ritwik added softly, his voice filled with quiet protectiveness.
I turned to Ritwik, startled. His words carried weight, but his tone was calm, like he'd drawn a line and was daring anyone to cross it.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay composed. "Grandfather only transferred the ancestral land and Haveli in the village. I can transfer it to Ritwik's name, but not yours," I said, the weight of my words pressing down on me. I knew my father would sell it in a heartbeat, and I couldn't bear the thought of losing my grandfather's legacy.
"Shut up. I'm not asking you—I'm ordering you to transfer it to my name," Papa barked, his voice rising.
"Lower your tone, Dad," Ritwik interrupted, his voice firm.
I blinked in surprise, unsure of what shocked me more—my father's audacity or Ritwik's boldness. How was Ritwik speaking to him like this?
"And I'm telling you," I said, my voice cold and unwavering, "I will not transfer a single square foot to your name."
My father's face darkened with fury. "What do you think of yourself? Are you ever going to do anything to benefit me? Or are you just going to remain a useless burden?"
His words hit like a slap, but I didn't flinch.
"You think you can handle that land and the Haveli?" he sneered. "Such a loser you are.Konse janam ka paap hai jo tum paida hui mere ghar mai? Ussi din maar dena chahiye tha tumhe. Tumse tumhara pati tak toh sambhala nahi gya, kab tak bhoj ban k rahogi mujpe?" ("What sin from a past life brought you into my house? I should have killed you the day you were born. You couldn't even manage your own husband, and how long will you continue to be a burden on me?")
"Zubaan sambhaal ke baat kijiye, Kaka sa!"
The voice rang out like thunder, cutting through the room. I turned to see Reyansh storming in, his face a mask of rage.
"Agr humne aaj ke baad is awaz mein apni Bhabhi Maa se baat karte suna toh zinda jala denge hum apko," Reyansh growled, his eyes burning with fury.
"Mind your language, Reyansh!" Ritwik warned, stepping forward.
