The house was buzzing with activity, but an unsettling weight loomed over everyone. It had been a week since Tranika had woken up, yet only Adhiraj, Atharva, and Reyansh had met her. The rest were kept away—not by choice, but by Adhiraj's firm decision.
He wouldn't let his parents or Anamika near her until she is completely stable. The doctors had warned that she wasn't stable enough to handle stress, and Adhiraj took that as a command. Ritwik, her brother, hadn't even tried. Not because he didn't care—because he was afraid. Afraid of seeing her, afraid of facing the sister he had failed.
Even Atharva's mother, who had been there when Tranika was unconscious, had left after receiving an urgent call and hadn't returned since.
But the most surprising thing? Vriti.
The woman who had been the most desperate to see Tranika awake, the one who had held onto hope tighter than anyone else, hadn't faced her yet.
She had been waiting for this moment for two years. Two years of agony, of watching Tranika lie motionless, of hearing the doctors say there was little hope. But now, when Tranika had finally come back to them, Vriti was avoiding her.
Adhiraj noticed.
"Go feed her," Vriti said, handing him a plate.
He didn't move.
Vriti frowned. "Go and feed her, Adhiraj."
"You're avoiding her," he said, his voice sharp. "What's wrong with you? You cried every single day when she was unconscious. And now, when she's awake, you won't even look at her?"
"I'm afraid," Vriti admitted, her voice trembling. "I don't know... I'm so nervous."
Atharva, who had been watching quietly, finally spoke. "Go meet her."
Vriti hesitated. But then, after a deep breath, she turned and walked toward Tranika's room.
Her hands were cold. Her heart was racing.
As she stepped inside, she saw her.
Tranika was sitting up in bed, staring at the wall.
So fragile. So lost.
For a moment, Vriti couldn't breathe.
Then, as if sensing her presence, Tranika turned her head. Their eyes met.
"Bhabhi," Tranika whispered.
Vriti didn't respond. She just walked over, sat beside her, and placed the plate on the bedside table.
"It's been a week," Tranika said, her voice weak but steady. "You didn't come to meet me."
Vriti's hands curled into fists in her lap. "Why do you care?" she asked, her tone cold.
Tranika's lips parted in shock. "Bhabhi... why are you saying this?"
"Why?" Vriti let out a bitter laugh. "Am I wrong?"
