I entered the station early the next morning with a few remarks on how I look sick by my colleagues. 'Hey are you ok? You look sick' Yells over detective Bradley. A wide smile about his face. 'Oh shut it!' I yell back, he laughed and returned to searching through a pile of large folders. 'Hey chief! Is Derek here today?' I greet Chief detective Madison with a lazy smile. 'Ahhh...' Was all that was said as she tried to remember. Two firm hands suddenly spring onto my shoulders. Startled I grabbed behind at one of the arms and using the strangers momentum, pulled them over my shoulder onto their back. In-between Madison and myself. It was Derek. 'Ouch! Why you always do that?!' Yelped Derek. 'Well you found him' said Madison, pointing at the dazed Derek. 'Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry. You startled me is all.' I help him to his feet. 'Nah. I was the one trying to scare ya!' Smiled Derek. 'I better be going before you chuck me over your shoulder' Chief gave a wave at someone walking past and walked after them. 'Another day at the office huh?' Says Derek, I laugh. 'Well we really should be getting back to work' I reply 'mhm' Derek walked over to the coffee machine and made a peace sign at me. 'Uh... Peace out?' I laugh. 'No you numb nuts! Two sugars?!' He says shaking his head. 'Oh! Yes please!' He hands me the coffee and we walk to our offices, situated next to each other, and worked until early evening. Driving home something felt off, I didn't know what it was and tried to dismiss it with some music until I got home. Pulling up into my drive way, I grabbed my bag and shut the car door behind me. I reached to top of the stairs and my heart dropped. A massive hole was made right through the front door. 'Oh my god... Hello?!' I screamed through the hole, a faint step was all that was heard and some heated whispering. Climbing through the door I pulled my gun from my side hostler. Feeling its weight in my palm gave me some strength to keep crouching forward into the main hall. I kept walking until I reached the door at the end of the hall. Pondering on whether or not it was open when I left, I placed my ear to the door and controlled my breathing. In... Out....in...out...big in, shoving open the door I barged in only to have to wind knocked out of me, searing pain coursed through my stomach. 'Hold her down!' Powerful arms ripped the gun from my hands. I'm not going to die! I stood and and dodged to the left just missing a knife to the torso. Someone lunged and got a face full of my boot before I punched them in the throat. Gagging, he stumbled away. The person with the knife swung again, aiming for my legs. I jumped back then forward, faster than they anticipated because I disarmed them with a crack. They fell back clutching their arm. I spun around to engage my next opponent. Frozen in a crouched pose I stared at them him. A gun, my gun, poised in between my eyes. I held my breath...
