The scene shifts to show Ned, Robb, Bran, Theon, Jon, Rodrik Cassel and Jory Cassel travelling back to Winterfell through the woods. The men are all stopped by a ravaged deer left on the wooden bridge they are attempting to cross.
Jon: What is it?
Theon: Mountain lion?
Ned: There are no mountain lions in these woods.
The men unsheathes their weapons and begin their search for what creature killed the deer. Ned soon finds a dead direwolf with antlers piercing it's throat. The wolf's pups whimper around their mother. Theon looks at the large beast with a slightly freaked out expression.
Theon: It's a freak.
Ned: It's a direwolf. Tough old beast
Ned pulls the antlers out of the wolf's throat.
Robb: There are no direwolves south of the Wall.
Jon: Now there are five.
Jon proceeds to pick up a direwolf pup and offers it to Bran.
Jon: You want to hold it?
Bran: Where will they go? Their mother's dead.
Cassel: They don't belong down here.
Ned: Better a quick death. They won't last without their mother.
Theon regrips his blade and looks at Bran, prepared to follow Ned's command.
