Jasmine's POV:
"Jas, are sure you really want to do this?" My dad asked me for the millionth time while taking my suitcase out of my the car.
The day was finally here, and deep down I was uncomfortable with the whole idea of being in a new state and school in the middle of the year.
"Yes, dad! Everything will be okay" I reminded him again.
The more I had told him that same line, the more I hoped I would believe it myself.
I had taken enough space up in my dad's life, and he just remarried last year. They wanted to travel more but he felt bad about leaving me home alone. So I volunteered to move back with my mom for the time being.
"If staying in Chicago makes you feel uncomfortable then we will always come back to get you" he said with a worried face.
I could tell this move was eating him alive, but he deserved to be happy as well. I wanted that for him.
"Don't worry dad" I said with a smile.
At this moment I was standing at my gate waiting to board my plane.
My dad pulled me into a hug, as I embraced him. I would miss everything about him. His smile the most. I didn't necessarily do well with change, so letting him go was hard to do.
"I'll be fine dad" I promise to call everyday. I mentioned.
"Tell Lisa I said hello" he said while letting me go.
"I'll let mom know you said hi dad" I mumbled.
They hated each other for reasons that were unknown.
The plan ride was smoother than expected and before I know it my feet were planted in Chicago. I hadn't been here in years, and my wondering eyes proved that even more.
"Yo Jas!" A voice called out to me from behind.
I turned around to find my big brother Anthony standing behind me.
He was much taller from the last time I saw him.
He flashed his teeth as I walked closer . His dark skin made his eyes glow.
"Damn, bro! When did you get so tall?" I asked when approached him.
He laughed as he pulled me into a hug, "last year some time or the year before that" he mumbled.
"It's good to see you" I said.
We walked outside, as the rain started to pour down.
"Wait here and I'll pull the car up" he said .
As I wanted, girl approached me.
"Damn, Ant bringing girls from out of state now?" She said.
I head twisted in her direction... "excuse me?" I said in a louder tone.
She was a light skin girl, didn't look too much older than I. Her pants hugged her waist tightly, as her shirt was way above her belly.
"I'm just saying I don't think his girl will appreciate this" she mumbled.
"That's my brother" I replied.
She looked over my face before walking away without saying a word.
A white Mercedes Benz pulled up next to me, and my brother hopped out the driver seat.
My eyes grew wide... "now what is an high school senior doing driver this?" I asked as he grabbed my bags placing them in the back.
"I know no summer time job was able to afford this" I mumbled.
He laughed ... "the less you know the better" he said .
I know not to press the issue anymore, so the rest of the car ride easy.
We pulled up two story house, what looked like to be good neighborhood. Different from the one I visited two summers ago .
"Do you like it?" He asked .
"I love it!" I said .
We just moved in a few months ago, but you will have your own room and bathroom.
As we walked in, I could see our mom on the couch.
I took a deep breath, "hi mom" I whispered.
The moment she turned around I could tell she was high.
"Is that my baby girl?" She asked.
I nodded my head, as she pulled me into a hug.
She was much smaller than I remembered.
"Do you like this house my son bought for us? She asked.
I guess that's why you're sorry as dad agreed to let you come and stay with us now she added.
I didn't say anything, only looked around the place. It was really nice, almost better than my home in N.C. It even smelled nice.
Before my mom could go on, Ant pulled me towards the stairs agreeing to show me my room.
I followed him in silence... feeling guilty for leaving him to deal with her all these years.
As if he could read my mind he smiled.. "don't worry, she's been a little better since we have moved" he said.
I nodded my head, before he opened a door which appeared to be my bedroom.
I looked around the room as a queen size bed sat in the middle of the room, a door which led to a patio, flat screen tv on the wall, a setting area, and desk.
"Way bigger than my old room" I thought.
The bathroom was even bigger, I gasped.
"This looks like it should be your room" I mumbled.
"Not with all this purple" he said.
I laughed, looking around the room again.
"So you like it?" He asked curiously.
"I love it!" Thank you brother.
"Don't mention it" he whispered .
He was never one to show is emotions but I know he worked hard for this.
Even if he was selling drugs, he wanted something better for us.
"Now unpack, because we have school tomorrow" he said.
"After school I'll take you to go get a car" he added before walking out the room.
