(Y/N)'s POV

"Where'd you learn to slow dance so well?" Thalia asked me.

It never hit me until now that I was actually talking (and dancing) with Thalia in the flesh. I had always heard stories about her from Annabeth and Luke, and I had wanted to meet her for the longest time.

Now she was in front of me. It was almost unbelievable, for some reason. I guess she had always had a "legendary" status to me before, that it was weird to be friends with her.

She and I met last summer, and we had become fast friends. I don't even know how it happened, it just did. I wouldn't even consider myself punk or Goth like she was, but we did share a lot of hobbies, mainly fighting with weapons.

Thalia was just cool to be around, and she had the aura of graceful badassery about her. I realized why Annabeth and Luke had liked her so much.

I blushed at her question. It's been a while since I slow danced, and I was pretty surprised how good I was at it.

"Well, the year before Percy first came to camp, when I was like eleven or twelve, Chiron and the counselors threw a prom of sorts."

Thalia snickered. "Seriously? A prom?"

I nodded. "Yep. Anyway, the campers were encouraged to find dates for the dance. And, you know, that can get pretty stressful."

"But you got a date right?"

"Yeah. And you'll never guess who it was."

"Who?"

"Guess."

Thalia thought for a moment. "Annabeth."

I shook my head. "Nope. I was too afraid to ask her."

"What? Why? You guys were friends then, weren't you?"

"Kind of, but not as close as we are now. But that's besides the point."

"Just tell me who it was."

"Silena Beauregard."

Thalia gasped. "No way. She's that one pretty head counselor of the Aphrodire cabin, right?"

"That's the one."

"And she was your date to that prom. How the heck did you pull that one off?"

"Is it really that unbelievable?"

"I mean, kinda."

"Wow. Thanks."

"Jeez, I didn't mean it like that."

"Sure. Anyway, I wasn't her first choice. Her original date was a guy from the Apollo cabin, but then they got into an argument the day of the prom and decided not to go together. I was just about to give up on any prospect of getting a date before she ran up to me and asked if I could be her date, since she didn't want to be the only Aphrodite kid without one."

"Oh, so you were just a backup."

"Pretty much. But I danced with her, and I was atrocious at it. I kept stepping on her feet and tripping. She didn't make fun of me though, and she taught me how to do it right."

"Aww, what a nice story. A camp prom sounds fun. Well, kind of."

I chuckled, remembering it. "It was pretty ridiculous. Some centaurs showed up in prom dresses, and one dryad even showed up naked."
