Song of the chapter:
Blown Away by Carrie Underwood

__________

I probably listened to that CD all the way through, three times, because the songs were good. Actually, no--amazing! There were probably about sixteen tracks on the disc so I was listening to the CD for over two hours.

After I took my earbuds out of my ears, I decided that I wanted to go ask Ashton about this band, since I had never heard of them.

I left my room and glanced at his door which was closed and I could hear Blink-182 blasting. Wow, that kid had better music taste than I thought.

I rapped on his door quietly, and realizing that he probably couldn't hear me, I knocked louder. The music stopped about ten seconds later and then I heard a loud thud and someone cursing loudly.

When he opened the door--wincing, I had to bite the inside of my cheeks to keep from screaming with laughter.

"Hey." He said, visibly surprised to see me standing there.

"Hey, I was just--wondering if you, uhh--how you knew about this band?" God, I sucked at asking people questions. I held up the CD, in it's case.

His lips turned up into a half grin. "Did you like them?"

"They were alright." I didn't want him to know that I loved the CD. Might give him stupid ideas, or something.

His grin got wider. "Which song was--"

"No, answer my question." I crossed my arms over my chest.

He frowned and gave me a questioning look.

I groaned. He had the memory of a goldfish, I swear. "How do you know about this band? Because I listen to that 'genre' of music and I have never heard of them."

He shrugged. "I can't tell you." Then he turned, leaving the door open, and walked to his office chair, setting himself in it.

I glared at him. "And why not? You can't just hand someone a CD, make them listen to it and not tell them how you know about the band!" I was annoyed with him now.

He smirked. "But I did." Then he threw back his head and laughed.

And I swear to God, that laugh was the cutest thing I had ever heard. Which made me even angrier. I clenched out my fists and stomped out of his doorway, back to my room and slammed the door.

I thought I heard him laugh again, so I unplugged my earbuds from my computer, and blasted Carrie Underwood so that I couldn't hear him.

Such a freaking jerk. I tried to tell myself that he wasn't worth getting so upset over but I couldn't calm down.

"Ashton!" Someone called from up the stairs--it was more feminine and sounded like Lizzie.

Then I heard Ashton's voice. "Yes?" He was right outside my door. I could picture him looking up the stairs at her.

I lowered the volume on my laptop so I could hear what she had to say.

She was quite for a moment and then said in a low voice, "I really need to talk to you."

He said nothing--just walked up the stairs slowly.

I wondered what she needed to talk to him about. I was going to sneak out there and eavesdrop but thought better of it. I didn't want them to think low of me.

A few moments passed as I sat at my desk staring at my laptop screen at nothing in particular before I heard someone stomping down the stairs--loudly and Ashton's door slamming hard, making me jump.

Now I really wondered what she said to him.

Even though I didn't like him too much, I still wanted to be sure he was alright. I opened my door and stared at his door hesitantly. What if he was one of those people who were physical in their angry state.

Whatever. You've gone through it before. What's one more time? I thought.

I didn't knock on his door--I just called out his name softly. "Ashton?"

There was no answer. "Is everything okay?" Still nothing.

I took a deep breath. "Please answer me. I just want to make sure you're okay."

Suddenly the door whipped open, making me flinch. An angry Ashton stood there, his eyes rimmed with red. He had been crying. I knew exactly the feeling. Whenever I felt an emotion too excessively, I cried. It didn't matter what emotion it was.

"Are yo--" I started to say.

"What do you care? You've been completely rude to me since you moved in! And now all of a sudden, you care about whether I'm okay or not?" He yelled.

I stared at him in shock. This was different from the usually perky Ashton I usually encountered.

"I--I just--" I didn't know what to say.

"I--I just--" he mocked me. "Just go away." He slammed the door in my face leaving me there, my face aflame in embarassment.

I ran back to my door, closed it and dropped face first onto my bed, tears already pouring out of my eyes and down my cheeks.

It doesn't matter where I go, I just can't get away.
