"C'mon sweety cheer up. I know you hate moving but its a new opportunity, a new start. Just think, you will get to make new friends and see a new place." My mom tries to convince me. I'm not having it though, I just roll my eyes and plug my headphones in. Gold by Sleeping With Sirens starts playing in my ears.
________________________When I woke up we pulled into our driveway. Our house was quaint, blue, suburban home in the middle of the little town of Bakersfield, California. Its a tiny town where everyone knows everyone. The kind of towns I love but wouldn't admit to my mom.
I get out of our blue Toyota Camry, and drudge up the steps. The moving people already set or things up. I went upstairs straight to my room and slammed my door. I don't care what they do to me I'm tired of moving.
I plop down on my bed and text my best friend Belle that I made it to the hell hole which is my new home. Belle is my moms, best friends, daughter and we've known each other since birth. She has honey blonde hair and baby blue eyes, but don't let her looks fool you, she's a devil in disguise. My phone beeped alerting me that I got a message. 'So how's the new house? Better than the last? How about the town?' She asks me. 'I don't even know what the towns like yet we just got here. The house is alright and definitely better than the last.' I reply quickly.
Jumping off my bed I start to go through my boxes eager to get my stuff out so I feel more at home. Going to my box marked snow globes I open it carefully making sure not to shake the box in a way that could break them. I gingerly pick each of them up and place them on the shelves above my bed in my room. Picking up my last and most precious snow globe in the box I cry out in sadness as I see it broke on the move. "MOM!" I wail. She comes running in the room like someone just died.
"What?! What is it sweety?" She asks nervously. I don't have the guts to say anything so I just hold up the broken globe. Once she takes in the situation the nervousness on her face leaves and sympathy takes its place. "Oh sweetheart, I'm so sorry I know that's your favorite globe." She moves in to hug me but I shove her away forcefully. "No! You don't understand! If it wasn't for you and Tom always moving this NEVER would have happened!!" I scream in her face and take off down the stairs not caring about unpacking what's left of my little abode.
As I rush downstairs I run past Tom who has a questioning look on his face. "Ross, what's going on?" He asks worriedly. I don't even answer as I run out the door and down the street trying to find a place to hide, a place to get away.
As I'm running I don't see where I'm going because I'm crying and furiously wiping my tears away from my face when all the sudden I bump into someone. "I'm s-sorry." I mumble in a half apology and go to keep running by a hand stops me, "What's wrong? You look like someone just killed your dog." A deep voice asks. I look up to see a young boy around my age with hazelnut brown hair, and gray-green eyes who looked to be about 6'4. He was huge compared to my tiny 5'3 height. I try to hide my face in embarrassment but that isn't happening.
"What's wrong?" He asks as he gently removes my hands from my face, forcing me to look at him. I gulp nervously, not sure as to what I should say to this green eyed beauty. He seen I obviously wasn't going to be answering him anytime soon so he drops my hands and scratches the back of his neck. "Do you need a ride home? It's getting pretty late and there's a curfew around here for teens." He asks me nervously. I debate whether or not I should let this total stranger drive me home. Seeing as I had no clue where I was I decided I could just this one time so I nod my head. He smiles brightly, "Great! Here, lemme run and grab my car, wait here." He tells me and so I do.
Five minutes later a black Jeep Grand Cherokee pulls up and honks. The passenger window rolls down to reveal the mystery gentleman. "Hop in!" He tells me and I do. As soon as I buckle up he starts driving and asks me where I live. "I...I'm not quite s-sure ex-exactly. We j-just moved in t-today." Here's a thing you should know, I have a terrible stutter. Especially around people I don't know. I've learned to control it somewhat but when I'm extremely upset there's no controlling it. He doesn't seem to acknowledge my horrendous stutter and simply says, "Oh you must live over there by the Whidletons, good people. That's the only house that's been for sale around here for very long. Is it a blue house?" He asks. I simply nod, not wanting to embarrass myself further. He nods and continues to drive.
Ten minutes later I arrive home and my mom and Tom are outside on the porch waiting for me. As soon as I step out the car my mom comes running up to me and tackles me in a hug. "Oh Ross! We've been worried sick! You just ran out like that and we didn't know where you went and..." She didn't get to finish her rant because Tom interrupted her, "What on earth is your problem young lady?! Your mother has been worried sick while you were out prancing around with this, I don't even know who he is!! What has gotten into you?!" The infamous Tomster starts. Thank goodness the stranger steps in.
"Sorry to interrupt sir, but I'm Joseph, Joseph Willows. I live down the street. I was going for a walk when I seen your daughter here running and crying. I simply tried helping her out." He tells Tom politely.
Tom is stunned, he seems to be at a loss for words. "Thank you for bringing my daughter home. I appreciate it." My mom says to him. "You, inside. Now!" Tom says angrily. I turn and smile softly at Joseph. "Th-thank y-you." I smile shyly. He just smiles back and hops in his truck driving off. I slunk inside where I know imminent doom is awaiting me.
