When you overhear and misunderstand a conversation.
You were at the HYBE building, where both your group, Promise, and ENHYPEN frequently practiced and recorded. After a long day of rehearsals, you decided to head to the lounge area to unwind. Your groupmates, Sera, Minji, Lina, Hana, Jen, and Yuna, had all scattered to different parts of the building to relax or work on personal projects.
As you approached the lounge, you heard familiar voices. Heeseung and Jake from ENHYPEN were engaged in a serious conversation. You paused, not wanting to interrupt, but then you heard Heeseung say something that made your heart stop.
"Jake, I don't know what to do," Heeseung admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "I really like her, but I'm not sure if she feels the same way."
Jake sounded reassuring. "You have to tell her, Heeseung. Keeping it to yourself is only going to make things harder."
Your mind raced. Heeseung liked someone? You had harbored a crush on him for months, but now it seemed like your feelings were about to be crushed.
"I just... I don't want to ruin our friendship," Heeseung continued. "She's so important to me."
Tears welled up in your eyes. Unable to hear more, you quietly retreated, your heart heavy with the weight of unspoken feelings. You decided to avoid Heeseung as much as possible, unable to bear the thought of seeing him with someone else.
...
Over the next few days, you threw yourself into work, hoping to distract yourself from the pain. Your avoidance didn't go unnoticed, especially by your groupmates.
"What's going on with you?" Lina asked one afternoon during a break. "You've been acting strange lately."
You forced a smile. "It's nothing, just tired."
Yuna frowned. "You can talk to us, you know. We're here for you."
You appreciated their concern, but you couldn't bring yourself to explain. It was too personal, too painful. So, you simply nodded and returned to your practice.
...
One evening, as you were leaving the practice room late, you bumped into Heeseung in the hallway. Your heart raced, and you quickly looked away, trying to brush past him.
"Hey, wait," Heeseung called out, gently grabbing your arm. "We need to talk."
You swallowed hard, refusing to meet his eyes. "I'm really tired, Heeseung. Can we do this another time?"
"Please," he pleaded, his voice soft. "Just for a moment."
Reluctantly, you followed him into an empty room. The silence between you was deafening.
"You've been avoiding me," Heeseung began, looking hurt. "Did I do something wrong?"
You shook your head, tears threatening to spill. "No, it's not you. It's just... complicated."
He took a step closer, his eyes searching yours. "Complicated how?"
Unable to hold back any longer, you let out a shaky breath. "I heard you talking to Jake. About someone you like."
Heeseung's eyes widened in realization. "You heard that?"
You nodded, feeling your surroundings crumble with your confidence. "And I can't... I can't handle it, Heeseung. Knowing you like someone else."
For a moment, he was silent, then he gently cupped your face, caressing your cheeks with his thumbs. "You misunderstood," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "The person I was talking about... it's you."
Your breath caught in your throat. "Me?"
Heeseung smiled softly, his eyes shining. "Yes, you. I've liked you for so long, but I was afraid to tell you. I didn't want to risk losing you as a friend."
A mixture of relief and joy washed over you. "I thought... I thought you liked someone else."
He shook his head, leaning in closer. "No, it's always been you."
Before you could respond, he closed the distance between you, pressing his lips to yours in a tender, heartfelt kiss. All the confusion and heartache melted away, replaced by the warmth of his embrace.
...
Later, as you sat with Heeseung in the lounge, the rest of your group and ENHYPEN members joined you, laughing and chatting as if nothing had changed. But for you and Heeseung, everything had changed. You shared a secret smile, knowing that your relationship had just taken a beautiful turn.
Lina nudged you playfully. "You seem happier."
You glanced at Heeseung, who was laughing with Jake and Sunghoon. "Yeah, I am."
Yuna leaned in, whispering conspiratorially, "Does this have anything to do with a certain someone?"
You blushed, nodding slightly. "Maybe."
Your friends giggled, clearly thrilled for you. As the night went on, you felt a sense of contentment you hadn't felt in a long time. You and Heeseung had finally found your way to each other, and it felt like everything was just beginning.
