Ruth's POV
The car ride to the hospital felt unbearably long. Mark, Caleb, Lucas, and Secretary KC were with me, and the tension was palpable.
I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Kanina pa ako kinakabahan. My fingers tapped restlessly on my phone as I stared out the window, my mind racing with worry.
"Do you think everything's going okay?" Caleb asked quietly from the front seat, his eyes never leaving the road. Siya ang nagda-drive.
"I hope so," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "Avery is strong. She'll pull through this." Nasa front seat ako katabi niya. My eyes flicking to the rearview mirror where Lucas and Mark sat quietly, their faces reflecting the same anxiety.
Secretary KC nodded, her expression determined. "She has to. She's been through so much already."
Mark, usually the joker of the group, was uncharacteristically silent, his face tense. He stared out the window, lost in thought.
When we finally arrived at the hospital, we hurried to the front desk, barely able to contain our concern. The receptionist directed us to Avery's VIP room, but when we got there, it was empty.
"Where are they?" Mark asked, looking around the room.
Caleb pulled out his phone and tried calling Tyler, but there was no answer. "He's not picking up," he said.
"Maybe they're still in the surgery," Lucas suggested. "Let's head to the surgery floor. They might be waiting there."
We all agreed and quickly made our way to the elevators. As we ascended to the surgery floor, the sense of foreboding grew stronger.
The elevator doors opened, and we stepped out into the hallway. I immediately noticed a man standing outside a room, staring at the open door. Habang papalapit kami ay nagrerecognize ko na kung sino iyon.
"That's Tyler," I whispered, recognizing him instantly. We hurried over, my heart pounding in my chest. Anong ginagawa niya? Bakit siya nakatayo lang dun?
"Tyler!" I called out, but he didn't respond. He just stood there and...tears streaming down his face.
Anong nangyayari bakit siya umiiyak?
"What's happening?" Mark demanded, his voice rising in panic as he looked around for answers.
"Oh my God," Secretary KC gasped, her hand covering her mouth as we approached at nakatingin siya sa bukas na pinto.
As we turned para tingnan iyon, we saw a scene that made my blood run cold. Si Tyrone ay nakaakyat sa hospital bed, tears streaming down his face as he cried for his mommy. Malakas ang iyak nito at pilit niyang niyuyugyog si avery na nakapikit lang.
"What happened?" My voice breaking as tears filled my eyes. I looked back at Tyler, who was now silently sobbing, his gaze fixed on Avery.
"Tyler, please, tell us what happened," Lucas urged, his voice trembling.
Tyler didn't respond, his eyes glassy and distant. He was trapped in his grief, unable to speak.
"She's gone," the nurse said softly, her eyes filled with sympathy. Nakatayo lang ito sa room. "There were complications during the surgery, and we couldn't save her."
The words hit me like a physical blow. I felt my knees buckle, and Lucas caught me, his own eyes red with tears. Caleb stood frozen, his face pale and shocked.
"No... No, this can't be," I whispered, the reality of the situation sinking in. Avery was gone.
Our vibrant, strong Avery was gone.
