I reluctantly roll out of bed for my classes Monday morning. I'm tired. So tired. All I want to do is sleep. I've owned up to so much this weekend, I deserve a break I decide.
No. I mean yes, I do. But I can't miss class. I decide to bum it for the day and just wear leggings and a red flannel. Basic, I know.
I make my usual stop at the coffee shop before I head to class.
My mind goes somewhere else during class. I mean, it's world history, the most useless subject. I think about the situation I got myself into. Jocelynn and Luke.
I probably should have told him, but it's too late now. I wish I knew if he knew she was in town, but I can't ask him without revealing what I know.
I just can't lose him to her. I gained so much trust in him in such a short amount of time, which is very unlike me. It proves that Luke is special and one of a kind. The connection between us is indescribable.
"Do you agree, Miss Wright?" Professor Takac said, abruptly awaking me from my daydream.
"Oh, um...yes?" I say
"Really? Interesting. Why?"
I roll my eyes. I don't have the patience for this. "Because I just do" I snapped.
"Pay attention!"
"I am?" I sass back and cross my arms at him. Luke turns back from two rows ahead of me.
Professor Takac dismisses class, and I bolt out of there before he can say anything to me regarding my behavior.
"Kylie! Wait up. " I turn around to see Luke lightly jogging towards me. "What's up? How are you?"
"Exhausted" I admit.
"Yeah, you don't look too well."
"Thank you! That is exactly what every girl wants to hear." I say sarcastically.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I meant that you look a little sick, are you okay?"
"Yes I'm fine" I do my best to assure him.
"Great, then do you want to come over to my place later? Maybe have some dinner?" He asked me.
"Sure. But, I'll make the dinner" I give him a smile.
"Sounds good. I've gotta run, but I'll catch you later, bye" he says as he kisses my forehead. I stand for a moment with a light smile.
Back at the dorm I dig through my things while I try to find the Advil, I have a killer headache and I have to be at Luke's in an hour. I sigh and give up, I'll grab some on my way.
I do some makeup touch-ups before I head out. I stop at a local drug store to pick up some Advil. I feel as if I have gotten worse throughout the day, not better. I do my best to ignore my pain as I pull into the lot.
Once I find Luke's apartment door, I knock and wait outside.
"Hey! Come on in" he greets as he opens the door. I walk inside and I am surprised by how clean his apartment is. "I got the stuff you said you needed to make dinner, it's out on the counter. I'll be in the living room trying to find a movie later if you need me, okay?"
"Okay thanks" I smile back. I am left along in the kitchen. He already got it out all the dishes I needed too, wow.
I'm trying to shake this sick feeling I've got but this headache won't go away. I try to focus more on the dinner, but then I started to get really hot. I'm burning up all of a sudden and I'm feeling incredibly nauseous. I try to call Luke's name for help, but then everything just went black.
*Luke's POV*
I rush into the kitchen after I heard a loud thud.
There she is. Unconscious and a huge gash on her leg. I rush to the phone to call 911.
"911 what's your emergency?"
"Yes hi, uh my girlfriend was making dinner and she fainted, and she had a knife in her hand at the time and now she's got this big cut on her leg."
"Okay, is she conscious now?"
"Um, no. Why? Should she be? Will she be okay?"
"Sir, please stay calm. We have your address and we will be right over"
"Thank you." I say and hang up. I pace back and forth. Fuck. I wish I paid attention in school when they taught us what to do in these situations. All I know is that she needs to stop bleeding.
I run into my bedroom to grab a spare sheet and wrap it around her leg.
Fuck! I live in an apartment, how will they know which ones mine? I decide to stay with Kylie until I hear the sirens. I then rush downstairs to lead the paramedics up to my place, so they can take care of Kylie. They load her on a stretcher and I follow after them.
"Are you riding?" The woman asks. I nod and hop in the back of the ambulance.
I start cracking my knuckles, something I do when I'm nervous.
"You know you shouldn't do that" says the 'Mr. I'm-so-fucking-smart-because-I-went-to-medical-school'.
I looked him straight in the eyes and cracked them again just to piss him off.
After what seemed like forever, we arrived at the hospital. Outside, there is a doctor waiting.
"What do we got?" She says as she helps roll Kylie inside.
"18 year old female, with big gash on her leg that will need stitches, and possible trauma to the head" answers the female paramedic.
"I've got it from here thank you" smiles the doctor to the paramedics.
"Will she be okay?" I ask.
"She will need about twenty stitches on her leg, that's a nasty cut. And as for her head, I'm going to get a CT so we can figure out what's going on, if anything."
"I'm sorry, but what's a CT? What does it do?"
"It's just going to show us what's up inside of her head, and what damage may have been caused"
"Okay, thanks"
"No problem" she smiles and walks away with Kylie.
