Kaoru and Reki got into the ambulance together. The others had promised to follow later in Shadow's car.
Reki was escorted by the paramedic and led to a seat. He buckled up, and the ambulance set off.
Reki was glad that Kaoru was coming along instead of Langa. Of course, he trusted Langa more and felt more comfortable with him. Langa was like his other half, but he couldn't bear for Langa to see him like this – so helpless and injured. He hated it.
The man next to Reki glanced at his head wound again. It was somewhat treated now, and Reki wore a bandage around his head that looked a bit odd.
He noticed the paramedic's gaze wandering down his arm. Just great. His wounds started to bleed a little through the bandage and his sweater – probably due to the impact. It wasn't bleeding much since Reki had put a very thick bandage on it.
Now he got nervous. He couldn't let the paramedic see his wounds, or Kaoru would see them too. His headache started to come back.
The paramedic reached for Reki's arm, and Reki flinched nervously. "May I take a look at that?" he asked. Reki held his own arm tightly. Now Kaoru was also looking at him.
"Reki, did you hurt yourself more than you said? Why didn't you mention it?" Kaoru asked.
Reki, think! Come up with something, he thought to himself.
"No, it's an old injury that probably reopened," Reki lied again.
"Oh, I see. Still, it would be better if I take a look," the paramedic said and gently pulled Reki's arm towards him. He was about to pull up Reki's sleeve and saw the bandage.
"No!" Reki shouted and pulled his arm back. The paramedic was a bit startled, and Kaoru wondered why Reki suddenly yelled.
"Reki, calm down. The man is just trying to do his job," Kaoru said, trying to move a little closer to Reki.
Reki kept his distance and was completely against showing his arm. He couldn't allow it. It wouldn't be too bad if the paramedic saw it, but it would still be uncomfortable. Reki's problem was Kaoru. He could never, under any circumstances, let him see it.
The paramedic kept asking, and Kaoru's attention was still on his arm. Reki shook his head and wanted to jump out of the ambulance, but that wouldn't end well either. He was truly desperate. How could he get out of this situation?
But then, just as the man was about to reach for Reki's arm again, they arrived at the hospital. Thank God. Reki immediately unbuckled his seatbelt with his other hand, jumped up, and tried to get out, but he fell back due to his balance and dizziness. However, Kaoru quickly caught him.
The paramedic also helped Reki, and everyone got out of the ambulance. Reki was quickly brought to the emergency room and immediately treated.
Kaoru was told to sit in the waiting area, which he did.
Reki, on the other hand, had to sit on a hospital bed. The doctor came right over. Reki watched him attentively as the paramedics explained what had happened. The doctor glanced at him a few times, and now Reki feared that the paramedic had said something about his arm.
"Hello," the doctor said with a smile and closed the curtain. Now it was just Reki and him.
"Look here first," he said, taking a light out of his pocket to check Reki's pupils.
"Okay, great."
"Then I'll take a look at your injuries." Reki nodded. The doctor could examine the head wound, but not his arm.
