YOU GROANED AS YOU slumped into your seat on the bus, feeling the weight of the impending school trip settle over you.
being the class president meant you had to go, even if it was the last thing you wanted to do. Aoi, who sat beside you, noticed your mood and tried to cheer you up.
"come on, it won't be that bad," she said brightly, nudging your arm. "think of it as a chance to relax and have some fun!"
you rolled your eyes, letting out an exaggerated sigh. "relaxing on a school trip? yeah, right," you muttered.
"i'd rather be doing something productive."
she chuckled, undeterred by your grumpiness. "well, maybe this will cheer you up. i heard from a friend that a guy likes you. isn't that exciting?"
you raised an eyebrow, giving her a skeptical look. "oh, really? another one, huh? can't say i'm surprised," you replied, your tone dripping with ego. "i mean, who wouldn't like me?"
Aoi smiled but then added softly, "yeah,i get it. you're amazing, after all. but... i kind of like him too."
your smile wavered for a moment, a flicker of surprise crossing your face. you quickly regained your composure, hiding the slight sting her words had brought.
"well, he has good taste," you replied, trying to keep your voice light. "but if he's smart, he'll see how great you are too."
Aoi laughed, though there was a hint of sadness in her eyes. "thanks but i can't blame him for liking you. you really are something else."
you smirked, leaning back in your seat. "of course i am. but, Aoi, you're great too. anyone would be lucky to have you."
her cheeks flushed as she smiled, the sadness in her eyes vanishing. "thank you," she said softly. "that means a lot coming from you."
you gave her a reassuring nod, maintaining your confident demeanor. "seriously, Aoi. you shouldn't sell yourself short."
she looked genuinely touched by your words, her smile widening. "thanks. it's just... sometimes it's hard to see it, you know?"
"yeah, i get that," you replied, your tone softening slightly. "but trust me, you're amazing."
Aoi's eyes sparkled with appreciation. she reached into her bag and pulled out a bag of candy. "want some?" she asked, holding it out to you.
you glanced at the bag and then back at her, your smirk turning into a genuine smile. "sure, why not?" you replied, taking a piece.
as you both shared the candy, the bus continued on its journey, the hum of the engine and the chatter of classmates providing a comforting backdrop.
