flashback

"Nadine!" Mother calls as I quickly run to the dock to see what she needed me for.

It was two days until my seventh birthday. We always went boating to celebrate a couple days before which I loved so much.

As soon as I reach my mom she opens her arms as I jump into them happily feeling her warm embrace, "Oh what a big girl you are becoming!" She says putting me down.

"My little mermaid!" My dad says coming around the corner from being on the boat, "I have a couple things to show you!" He says reaching his hand out.

I walk closer to grab his hand, he lifts me up a bit so I could get on the boat safely. He leads me to the front of the boat where there are a couple presents.

"For me?!" I jump a bit with excitement, "Of course they are for you!" Dad says grabbing the three nicely wrapped boxes and handing them to me.

I look at my mom who is recording the whole thing, I grab the first box opening it as fast as I could. It was a cute light orange bathing suit.

"Oh it's so adorable! I love it, thank you!" I say placing it aside and grabbing the other box. I open it fast before revealing a bunch of candy.

"We know you love candy so we got you a bunch!" My mom says as she sees my eyes widen.

"Now don't eat all of it in one sitting!" Dad says laughing a bit, I could tell that he definitely wanted all the chocolate pieces.

I grab the last box, it was tiny. I open it slowly to see a gold bracelet with a little mermaid tail attached to it. The mermaid tail had one singular diamond on it which made it bling.

I quickly put it on and hugged both of my parents, "I love you guys" I say.

It had only been a couple hours later, I was in the lake most of the time playing with my parents and I had even gotten to drive the boat a little bit.

We were out in the middle of the lake, our neighbors had come outside to sit with their families as they normally do.

My dad started up the boat so we could head back home, all I remember is hearing a loud boom and my dad cussing.

My back hit the water knocking the air out of me, as I started sinking into the cold merky water a hand reached out to grab me. One of my neighbors.

I passed out after reaching the grass, I could remember hearing sirens and people yelling. The police shining lights in my eyes trying to wake me.

My head lifted up slightly I looked around seeing people frantically dragging two large bodies from the lake, my parents.

I sat up crawling slowly, everyone kinda just watched as I made my way to them. I could see my dad was all bloody. My mom wasn't really injured she was just "asleep".

I ended up staying at a neighbors house for a few days, I was very quiet and nobody really knew what to say to me. I mean what would you say to a seven year old girl who lost both her parents just before her birthday?

From that day on I would have a fear of big open areas with water. If my head was under water or it even touched me I would just freak out. If I drank water I would need it to be flavored.

Almost a week after my parents passed I would be sent off to a place that later on I would call hell. No one should ever have to go through the pain I did when I was sent there.
