Iwaizumi and Oikawa had been dating for 3 months.
They had both confessed closely after their loss to Karasuno. Oikawa had been devastated after their loss but was still maintaining his egotistical behavior, he loved Iwaizumi because of their shared experience with loss. Iwaizumi loved Tooru because he had always thought that Oikawa was the one. The one he would grow old with, the one who would raise their children, the one who he would wake up to every morning. Iwaizumi had been teased by his closest friends at how much he adored Tooru. "Geez Hajime you really are the definition of a sap!" Atsumu chuckled. "Oh shut up, Miya. You and me are not the same, I wasn't scared to admit my feelings." Iwaizumi laughed as he saw the horror on Atsumu's face and how confused Sakusa looked. "You have a crush Atsumu?" Sakusa questioned the blonde. "No, Hajime is a terrible liar." Atsumu immediately spat. While Sakusa interrogated Atsumu, Iwaizumi couldn't help but trail his eyes off them and onto Tooru. They had been in Sakusas living room, and Tooru had gotten up to make tea. Hajime watched as Oikawa sipped his drink with his lips subtly rose and smooth, and his eyes soft.
Iwaizumi loved everything about Oikawa. That's why he could tell something had been on Tooru's mind that day. His lips were rosy and smooth, but they pursed several times when it seemed as though he was thinking. His soft eyes turned stiff in the middle of a conversation with Hajime multiple times. Something had been bothering him, Iwaizumi could tell. But he didn't press on the issue as he didn't want to pry, and if Oikawa needed help, he would ask.
That night would be the last night Hajime would see Tooru before Oikawa renounced his Japanese citizenship. That night was sworn to haunt Hajime forever. Their argument, the way they left things, never seeing him again. That night crippled all of those years Oikawa and Iwaizumi had together. Tooru didn't ask for help, and maybe he never needed any. But Hajime felt as though garbage tossed to the side, as though he was the one blocking Oikawa from his destiny.
