The only time I spoke to aunt Rebecca after our talk was when I hugged her goodbye the next day before getting in the van that would take me to the private airport with Seth. Back to school. Where I now know that someone definitely wants me dead. Even my aunt thinks that.
When I got up in the morning the next day for class, I felt like a zombie. I'd been tossing and turning all night after having a nightmare of my mom's car crash.
My eyes had bags under them so I did the best I could using makeup to hide it. No one needed to know. People seemed worried enough as it was. Seth especially didn't need to know. I hadn't told anyone about what happened with my aunt. And I have no clue if I even plan to tell anyone...
I brought the box with me. I'd hide it in the mini safe hidden under my bed for the time being. Any clues could be helpful now. Especially if it meant life and death.
I'd just grabbed my bag from the coat hanger when Amoy ran up to me from her dorm room. Her hair not yet brushed and put into its usual neat bun.
"I just got more news" Amoy says. She seemed frantic.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"Remember how being the top editor I get lots of gossip? Well the next thing I just heard will blow your mind! So this kid, who will remain unanimous, told me that someone from their dorm house went missing last week, and was later found dead. And the school covered it up. A gardener found the body and was paid off!" Amoy was talking quickly in a hushed tone.
"So no one else knows? What about authorities?!" I ask.
She shakes her head. "No clue if they know. The resource only had a limited amount of information that they heard the gardener say."
"But that means if they just covered up one murder... how do we know they didn't do that for others?" I ask.
"That's exactly my point. We can't trust anyone."

After Seth dropped me off at my first class (which was English) of the day I got my book that I was currently reading straight out of my bag to read.
"Hey you" lookigin for the owner of the familiar voice I turn to see my seat partner. Over the course of the last month I'd learned his name was Tobias and that we had very similar reading tastes. He was great to talk to and quite frankly, he doesn't ask any deep personal questions which I find great.
"Hey" I give a slight smile and close my book. "Your later than usual to class, you're usually here before me. Anything up?"
"No, just got stuck reading the school fliers. Still sad that they are stopping the Halloween carnival after what happened last year. I heard the food for that was the best." He says.
Memories of Evie being poisoned flash into my mind. Truthfully I was glad they canceled it.
"But I did hear that the is year that the stables would be doing a costume contest for the horse riders. Plan on going?" He asks.
"Actually I am a rider, so yeah I'll be there" I say.
"Huh, I can't believe we've been chatting for a month and I didn't know you ride." He says.
"What sport do you do?"I ask.
"Soccer."
"Hmmm, I guess I wouldn't have taken you for soccer either" I say.
"Attention class!!"'the teacher walks to the front of the room. "Grab your writing utensils. Pop quiz!" Everyone groans besides me and Tobias. We were probably the only ones who actually read the chapters for the book we were reading.
Thoughts?
What do you think of Tobias? (Name sound familiar? 😏)
