The wide doors of the medbay hiss quietly before smoothly sliding apart.

"THERE IT IS AGAIN!" Nezyo, the station's trauma surgeon, stops abruptly, pointing at the vent cover on the far side of the room, making Ka and Hazuko roughly bump into him from behind. Three sets of eyes lock onto the vent but, as with all of Nezyo's outbursts lately, see nothing out of place.

Hazuko lets out a frustrated huff, "Again? Really? I think it's your eyes."

Sidestepping the trio, Kazii, the station's augmentation specialist steps cautiously into the room, "I can take a look at them if you want. Diagnostics won't take more than a few minutes."

"It's not a malfunction! It's a..." Nezyo makes a few vague gestures, as if trying to draw what he saw in the air, "...thing. I know I saw it!" He quickly indexes to the video captured by his eyes' recording function, relaying the video to his packmates.

Ka and Hazuko pause briefly as they review the video clip.

"I'm not seeing it."

"Nope."

They move on, walking to their respective stations.

Ka, the station's general practitioner, walks to the autodoc, a flat, padded table with a diagnostics and standard surgical arm mounted to either side. She checks the status of the autodoc's self-diagnostic report and, finding it well within normal operating parameters, pretends to check it again. She spends the stolen time checking the new on her Nexus uplink. Pay and benefits negotiations between the Illuminate and an independent mining colony in one of the neighboring systems had fallen through. Being mindful of how long she was taking, Ka searches the independent colony's past negotiations and pins it to her HUD before continuing with her tasks.

Hazuko begins reviewing the day's itinerary. Inbound Avali Expeditionary Fleet personnel carrier. One appointment for outbound crew member for a basic physical. Easy day. Most days were. Aside from assisting with her pack's general tasks and running routine scans on samples collected by the station's mining team there wasn't much need for an astrobiologist on station. "Nice and quiet," she says to herself.

"If you look at the last two frames the cover DOES seem to move a few pixels," Kazii notes while reviewing the medical pack's restock that should be arriving today. "Could just be a glitch though. How old are those augs?"

Nezyo flicks two of his ears in agitation and ignores the questions, rearranging the contents of a shelf to make room for the fresh pressure bandages soon to arrive. Moving across the room to the chemical storage cabinet, he sends an internal command, <storage.all inventory restock>. A glowing orange outline of a small vial appears overlayed onto the cabinet along with three glowing red outlines. He opens the door and grabs the orange outlined vial, its glow disappearing a moment after he removes it. Another command, <storage.right open>, and a small compartment in the outer thigh of his right leg opens giving access to similar vials and an empty slot. With practice his slides the vial into the slot, <storage.all close>, and the compartment slides shut, leaving no trace that it was there at all unless you knew what to look for. Giving a brief glance at the unhighlighted objects in the cabinet, he takes the red vials, expired fast-acting pain meds, and brings them to the recycling unit built into the medbay's cleaning station.

Seeing the upcoming augmentation requests sent Kazii's heart into flutters. There is always a level of thrill and excitement at the prospect of installing a new module or upgrading an older piece of kit with something shiny and custom engineered but the upcoming install was something else. An unaugmented avali's first eye augmentation! "The implants should be on today's shipment," he checks the manifest for the inbound shipment, confirming it is on the list. With augmentation being as common as it is within the Illuminate, an unaugmented avali is a rarity. "Assuming the implant arrives as planned today we can finalize the surgery date. Not bad for a first," he says, browsing the specs.
