Oh god

It was 3:00, he was late.

I sighed and leaned against the cold brick wall behind me, juxtaposed to the warm day outside of the shade. The last day of school and he really would stand me up? I anxiously checked the time again just to see it was unchanged. I had grown weary of all the various distractions I had brought myself in case of this exact situation, and I was about ready to leave when I heard a noise from across the school parking lot.

There he was, in all his chicken nugget glory.

"GIDAGADI" he apologized out of breath when he finally reached me. "GIDAGADIGIDAGIDAO"

"Well you could've at LEAST texted me you were going to be late," I remarked, a bit snarkier than I meant to.

"Gidagidigida gidadigao?" He inquired, ignoring my question although I could see by the look on his glorious man face that it hurt him inside.

"Oh," I said in a tone I purposely made as friendly as possible. "Yeah I brought my controller, you?"

He nodded.

As we walked down the street to his house, he would occasionally bump into me. Every time he did I could feel myself tense up. The day was calm and warm as was any day in June, but something was wrong.

Before I knew it, we had arrived at his house. I had never been over to his before, but we both agreed it was better than having to deal with my mother.

"Gidagidi... gida go," he said modestly.

His house was HUGE and surprisingly clean. Nugget had no family, as he was the only one to survive "the incident." He didn't like to bring it up now, of course, but he was born from a McDonald's 20 piece McNugget meal. His family was given to an extremely hungry frat boy, and he was the only one to survive due to him being dropped between the frat boys car cushions. He still mourns his siblings, it's a sore subject for him.

He lead me to a room with a TV and couch, normal gaming setup. We sat down and did as the boys do: game.

We played Smash Bros, the game where you follow a set path to collect Minecraft diamonds and fail if you can't collect them all, and some weird game I had never heard of called Hen-Thai versus Fur-ies? Every game we played I would lose, my palms were too sweaty, knees weak arms are heavy, there's vomit on his sweater already, moms spaghetti . Just like earlier in the day, something was off.

Night came, and it was time to sleep. So as the gods have decided, Nugget somehow didn't have a sleeping bag in his entire house.

"I could just sleep on the floor, you know," I offered

"GiDAGIdigidagidao gidigio" he refused.

So there I was, sleeping in Nuggets bed, or more accurately restlessly questioning myself in Nuggets bed. Next to me his breathing was slow, everything was quiet, but I was so anxious. My heart raced and my chest hurt. Something about this, this closeness, was driving me insane. It's not like I had never been this close to anyone before. I had tons of sleepover with my other friends before. But this, this with him, this was different.

Just at that moment, Nugget turned over in bed, closer to me. He rested his head on my chest, only causing my heart to beat faster. He jolted a little bit, noticing my heart racing, and looked towards me. I looked at him, and he looked at me. A shared moment of silence.

"Gida?" He whispered.

"I'm fine" I said with a tremble in my voice.

His eyebrows raised as if he had come to a realization, and he smiled. He moved closer to me and laid back down.

At this point everything inside me had melted and was now in a whirlpool of confused emotions. Tense.

I couldn't do it anymore. I gave up, or more accurately gave in. I wrapped my arm around him, pulling him close to my chest. He didn't retaliate. Our breathing in sync, this moment was perfect.

He looked at me and did something I'll never forget.

He kissed me.

It was like a dam being broken. Bottled up emotions that once hurt me now turned to euphoria. I kissed him back.

Once we were done I whispered to him,
"I love you"

"Gi daga dio" he whispered back

"Gi daga dio" he whispered back
