I know what I did was fucked up. But fear took hold of me when I realized how addicting Ariella's lips were.
Contrary to belief, it wasn't just because of Frank that had me pulling away in fear, though that definitely was a part of it. It had everything to do with the fact that I loved kissing her. That scared me. I've kissed a fair share of women in my time, and they were good, but when I kissed Ariella nothing else mattered. No woman could ever top the way Ariella's lips felt on mine. She became the oxygen I needed in my lungs. She tasted of strawberry lipgloss and sunshine. And her body was everything I needed and more, the soft curves of her hips fit perfectly in my hands. It was terrifying because I was way deeper than I realized when it came to Ariella.
And she hadn't talked to me in three days, other than to tell me that she was ready to go for the funeral.
Ariella was the perfect mafia princess, she wore a form-fitting black dress that hugged her chest so her breasts were on show, which was not helping my situation because fuck I wanted to mark them up. Her black hair was curled, pinned back by her mother's wedding broach, a diamond-encrusted A necklace was hanging in the valley of her breasts, and her father's wedding band sat beside it on the chain. She was delectable, mouth-watering. She was my weakness and I wouldn't be able to last without her speaking to me much longer.
Erik wasn't that cruel either, he showed up, although I know it pained him to be around Ariella right now, and from their stiff interaction, it was painful for her to be around him too, but they remained a united front. Her hand was resting on his elbow as they walked up to the pastor in the catholic church we were sitting in, the stained glass windows laying pinks and purples on the floor from the sunlight. Both Erik and Ariella smiled at the pastor as he said something, then kissed their foreheads and gestured to the microphone. Ariella stood behind Erik as he cleared his throat, making the entire church quiet down.
"Good afternoon, Ariella, and I would like to thank you all for coming," Ariella nodded to Erik's words, "I'm not very good with words, but it means a lot that so many families, so many people care enough about us that you showed up, but Ariella is far better at public speaking than I am," the church erupted in a chuckle, making Erik smile, "So, I'm going to hand it over to her."
Ariella nodded, smiling when Erik kissed her forehead and stepped down to the front pew. "Frank Abelli was only sixty when he was tragically gunned down in his home two weeks ago. He was known as ruthless in the city, but at home, he was just Papa. He loved his wife, his children, and his friends deeply. My papa made sure I lived that tragic night, he protected me, and for that, I will never thank him enough, I know he's happy that he's not alone up there too, he passed with his arms reaching out for the loves of his life Lily and Portia. He would've done anything to save them, and I know he tried." Ariella wiped a tear away from under her eye, "Portia Abelli was only fifty-five, she would've turned fifty-six tomorrow. She was loving, and kind, and she knew how to cook a mean banana bread," the church chuckled, "She did everything for her husband and her kids. She sacrificed a career of her own to help Papa with everything, she raised three kids who I'd say turned out pretty well, but I know she's happy she went with Papa, she would've never forgiven herself had she lived and he died."
Ariella took a long pause before briefly looking at Erik, and then to me before back to her paper. "My sweet Lily Abelli, only sixteen. This was the cruelest thing anyone could've done to my family. Lily was the sunlight in our dark world. I'll never forget the way she screamed, begging for me because we were so close. To take out my mama and papa is one thing, they got to live life, and they made enemies, but to take out a sixteen-year-old is cruel, and unjust. What had she ever done to deserve that from anyone? I'll never understand that. My only comfort is that she's with Mama and Papa, and they'll protect her in ways I never could. At sixteen Lily is the bravest person I've ever known, and while I will miss my parents, I will miss Lily more, because I'll never get to see the person she could've been."
