"I need Dr. Malcome in room B106 Asap!" The nurse called through a small radio
"This is messed up..." James hurled. "How come no one noticed this!?!"
"Well we do have Robotic AI's, and there are known for sometimes missing certain injuries. They mostly just check for broken limbs when they are glitching" The nurse explained. "We check them once a week, because gushing blood could get into their circuits and mess them up, I guess we forgot to check them yesterday."
Suddenly a tall man in a lab coat came rushing in with some equipment.
"Ok what seem to be the- Oh!... That's not good."
"I think we may have to perform a surgery." He insisted.
"Doctor, I don't think that is necessary, I think all he needs are some stitches." Said the nurse.
The doctor pulled out a hand lens from his pocket and held it close to Joe's wounds.
"No, There are shards of metal deep in his wounds. see?" He said. "We need to take them out, then we will stitch him up before he gets an infection."
The doctor got out a rod with lots of buttons on it, then turned it on. He waved over Joe, Then it beeped and a holographic screen popped up on it.
"What is that?" I asked.
"It's used like an X-ray. But it can find tumors in a brain, parasites, bullets, check temperatures, any thing in one swipe." He said searching through the data. " Right now I am looking for his vital signs, then I'm gonna see how deep those scraps of metal are."
"Damn, what year is it?" Said James.
The nurse giggled.
"I know right, technology is increasing very fast these days."
Suddenly the doctor took another swipe of Joe and began searching again.
"Oh my, We need to get him to the operating room fast." He said.
The nurse ran to a closet and pulled out a gernie. They both moved Joe from the bed on to the gurnie.
"Whats going on?" James asked, standing up from his chair.
"One of the shards of metal, cut one of his lungs. He has major internal bleeding, and might drown in his own blood if we don't fix him immediately." The doctor said rolling Joe out of the room.
Me and James followed them down the halls. I looked closely at Joe. He was still wearing a breathing mask. but you can barley see blood leaking out of it. The nurse removed his mask and replaced it with another that had a tube go down his throat, and a electronic pump to help him breathe.
"You guys need to wait till wecome out of the operating room to see him." The doctor said.
"But, is he gonna be Ok?" I demanded.
"Stay!" The doctor ordered, then rolled Joe into the operating room.
I stopped in my tracks, and sunk to my knees continuing to cry. James crouched next to me and gave me a hug.
"Right when I thought everything was fine." I sobbed.
"Don't worry mellon, he is gonna be fine." James said, rubbing my arm. "Come on, lets go to the waiting room."
Me and James waited in the waiting room for about two and a half hours. "Hey I have to go home my wife is starting to worry about me, and Micheal is already off of school, Soooo, I gotta be home for dinner." James mentioned. "Uh, Ok. I'll stay here, See you tomorrow." I said. "Tomorrow?" James questioned. "We have something important to talk about." I said. James stood up from his chair. "Uh Ok, I call you." He said, then he left.
I sat there for a couple more minutes when suddenly my brother walked in. He was very surprised to see me. He ran over to me and snatched me out of the chair with a big hug.
"Oh my god Hellon! I'm so happy to see you." He yelled swinging me around. "I got a call from your other friend James, he told me what happened. Are you Ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine, Griff."I sat back down in the chair."I'm just waiting for the doctor to tell me about Joe."
"I'm very proud of your friend doing such a heroic thing." Griff said. "I bet he is gonna be all over the news by tomorrow."
"Hes not really my friend.." I mentioned.
Griff raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
I pulled my sleeve back and showed Griff the ring on my finger that Joe gave me.
"He's my fiance." I grinned.
Griff's eyes widened. "He perposed!?!"
"Yeah... Before the shuttle got hit with an asteroid, and broke our brake boosters."
"Well at least he's-"
"Were's Dad?" I interrupted.
Griff's expression quickly flushed away. "Um, he's... working"
I softly nodded. "I understand..."
Suddenly Dr. Malcome walked into the waiting room. I quickly jumped out of my chair, anxious to ear what he has to say. Griff stood next to me with his had on my shoulder.
"So,Mell..."
My face glowed with relief. When he said "Mell" I new that he had to get it from someone.
"Your fiance is awake and wants to see you right now." The doctor smiled.
"Oh my god!" I cheered crying tears of joy.
"Go on, he's in the same room."
I took off down the halls with Griff running behind me. I barged into his room and saw him look up at me, still drinking from a cup with a straw. I sprinted oer to his bed ad gave him a hart felt hug. But right before he hugged back I stood up and slapped him across the face. Griff jumped with shock.
"Thats for shoving me out of a falling shuttle!" I yelled.
Joe rubbed his cheek softly.
"Mell I-"
I cut him off by raping my arms around his head giving him a kiss on the lips. He just went with it, wrapping his arms around me tightly.
"I guess that's for saving you and hundreds of children?" he said.
I let out a short laugh, and hugged him again tightly. He put his arms around me and just stared at the ceiling, finally relaxing. I never knew so much could happen in one day. I was tired.
"I'm proud of you bro." Griff said, sitting on the other side of the bed next to Joe. I sat up and let them share a big man hug.
"Well..." Said Griff. "I'll leave you two love birds to your self's."
Griff got up and grabbed his things and left the room. I decided to stay the night with Joe. The next day Joe's family came in, his parents siblings, other friends, and finally a news reporter with a camera crew came in with the principle of the school that Joe saved. They thanked him for his bravery and gave him many gifts.
Then I had to leave to meet up with James...
