I'm starting the story here, because I don't want to bore you with the story of the exam. So I'll go through the details now. It's about 7:30, a and Mum is, to say the least, infuriated with me. It was my last ever (ever!!!) day of high school today, and we got the results of our diploma test. Guess how many university courses I qualified for? Big. Fat. Z-E-R-O. Then again, that's what I was trying for. Maybe now Mum will leave me in peace, and let me sing. In any case, I just don't realize why I have to get a degree, when it's only going to waste my life.
So any way, I was slumped on the couch, watching Pitch Perfect, (The vocals are amazing, by the way, that's what makes it one of my favourite movies.) when Mum comes in.
Mum: "Piper..."
Me: "Mum, it's my life, and if I can't be screwed getting a degree, it's my choice! Besides, degrees never used to matter, and since I'm going to sing for my living, I won't need one, and it's my. Flipping. Choice. Okay?"
I tried to tune back in to the Bellas singing.
"(Ooooooohhhhh) Seems like everybody's got a price // I wonder how they sleep at night // When the-"
"PIPER BEAUMONTE! Get out of this house!"
"Mum. I. Am. Eighteen. Not two. You are not putting me in time out."
"No, Piper, I'm telling you to get out of this house. Go find a job; go live your own life like you want to so much. You'll find that not many people sing for a living. You have your bank account, grab a bag with what you may need, although you have to have bought it, and leave."
I snatched up my schoolbag from the floor, and fled upstairs to my room. I piled in a tiny sleeping bag that I had used while camping the summer before, a few sets of clothes, and a small box of CDs and DVDs. I knew I shouldn't, but they contained some of my all-time favourites, such as X (Ed Sheeran) Pure Heroine (Lorde) Mamma Mia! and, of course, Pitch Perfect. I slipped my iPhone and wallet into the back pocket of my jeans, my watch onto my hand, and grabbed a pair of socks from my draws. I raced downstairs and started lacing up my sneakers. How could Mum have done this to me? I finished doing up my laces and I raced out the door, not looking back on Mum's figure silhouetted in the window.
