"Tell Didi to hurry up!" Leah says impatiently.

We're going to this private beach area that you need a key card thing to access, and I guess my mom called in a few favors. It's only a few minutes to walk, and it's as hot as the pits of the underworld right now. It may be January, but California decided that winter was over a long time ago.

Dior rushes out after an excruciating five seconds and we head out the back door. On the walk there, we subconsciously divide into three groups; Aryan and Leah, Charlie and Dior, and somehow, I get stuck with Walker.

It sucks, I know. How can the way someone walks piss me off?

"Stop walking like that," I remark, wrinkling my nose.

"I'm walking perfectly regular!" he says, making a weird face. "You're the one who's walking like an alien."

"Your name is literally Walker, how can you not walk like a regular person," I say, throwing my arms up in the air in frustration.

We bicker back and forth, pointing out "weird" things about one another the entire way to the beach. Eventually, Leah links arms with me once we arrive, and we run into the ocean together.

The cool water feels amazing in comparison to the warm rays that burn off my skin. When a semi-large wave rolls up, I dunk under it, submerging my entire body into the water to avoid getting swept away.

Once I feel the wave pass, I come back to the surface, everything drenched. I have to push all my hair back and away from my face- I (regrettably) forgot to tie my hair up when we had put our stuff down. I don't even have a hair tie with me.

"Leah, do you have a hair tie?" I ask her.

"I don't, sorry!" she says. "Dior or Walker might have one though."

Why in the world would Walker have a hair tie?

I wade over to where they are, way back towards the shore, and struggling to make it past the first wall of waves.

Once I reach them, I ask Dior for one, and she doesn't have any besides the one she already has on.

Frick.

"Hey Walker," I say in a sickly sweet voice, "Do you have a hair tie?"

He laughs. "Stop talking like that, it's cringy." he says. "Do you absolutely need one?"

I squint my eyes at him and point to my curly hair, which thankfully is sticking to my back rather than blowing every which way in the wind. It's down past my butt, which is crazy. Shrinkage is crazy.

"Fine," he sighs. "Do you need help? Need it in a braid or anything?"

"Uh, yeah that would be great, actually."

"Got you, just turn around."

He takes my hair from my shoulders and carefully parts it- making sure not to yank out my hair from any stray knots. With surprisingly fast fingers, he finished the braid in no time, and ties the band around the end.

"Thanks," I say.

"Yep," he responds.

Now the rest of the group have caught up with where Leah is, past the waves and floating with the tide.

"C'mon!" I exclaim, running (or as much as you can in water) ahead, and diving under coming waves.

He rushes after me.

"She's out cold," Charlie says, poking the side of Leah's face.

"How? We were only out there for like two hours," I ask.

The rest of them shrug.

"Anyways, wanna get In-n-out?" Aryan suggests.

We all look at each other and shrug again.

"Sure," Walker says.

"We can bring her back a burger and a milkshake," I say.
