Wes arrived at Lucy's apartment with two cups of coffee in his hands and a big smile on his face. When she opened the door to welcome him into her place, he looked around curiously. "So, you have a huge house on the beach, but this is where you're living?"
"It's charming," Lucy said defensively before accepting her soy chai tea latte.
"Charming because of the building, or charming because of your neighbor?"
Her cheeks reddened. "Technically, he's not my neighbor. His bookstore is down the block."
"Your place is close enough that you've been spending a lot of time together."
"We've got a little book club that keeps us busy."
"Is that a euphemism?" He wondered with a quirked eyebrow.
"No! Everything between us has been platonic."
"You don't sound too happy about that."
"I guess...I guess I thought if he liked me, he would've tried flirting with me by now. We sit together every single day at his bookstore or on my couch watching movies, and I swear, Wes, I've given him chances, and I've felt like he was about to kiss me or something a couple of times, but nothing's happened."
"Okay, then do what every frustrated woman in the movies does."
She looked at him cluelessly. "Which is what?"
"Make the first move," he stated the obvious.
"You're right!" Lucy grinned widely as half baked plans soared through her mind. "There are so many movies to choose from to pick the perfect thing to do in this situation."
"Or, you could try to make something happen organically. You and Tim have had something better than the movies according to everything you've told me about him."
"You probably think it's blasphemous to say, but he's better than a leading man in any movie."
"I probably would've if I hadn't met my girlfriend."
"When am I going to meet this mystery Angela you can't stop gushing about?"
He took a sip of his drink to bide his time. "She doesn't know you're you."
"She knows about your best friend named Lucy, but she doesn't know it's me."
"It's nothing personal," he assured her, feeling guilty. "I don't want her to only stick around and date me because my best friend is a famous movie star."
"Yeah, I know, but if you really like her, you'll have to tell her eventually and see how it effects things between you two."
"Take your own advice and tell Tim who you are."
"My job isn't who I am, and if he isn't even interested in me, then I don't have to tell him."
"You're scared."
"Of course I'm scared. If I come clean and ruin my chances with the best guy I've ever met...I would be devastated."
"When you were scared to do your own stunts for that space movie, I reminded you that you'd been begging to do more stunt work for years, so I told you to embrace the opportunity even if it was scary. You found yourself the kind of person you've been looking for, so embrace it all, which includes whatever you're afraid of."
She nodded. "You're right. I'll talk to him tonight. Now, I have an hour before I have a costume fitting, so I want us to catch up. It's been forever since you and I had coffee and hung out."
"I know. I'm sorry I've been so busy. Angela can be...very distracting."
"You are full on swooning right now!" She noted happily. "When you say you've been busy, I have a feeling she's all you've been doing."
