previously...

"Babe," you hear as someone pokes your arm. "Babe, wake up."

You mumble something incoherent and open your eyes; Jaemin is finally home. It was late, and you could hear your parents getting ready for bed upstairs.

"Jaemin, I think we need to talk," you mumble, tiredly.

Jaemin looks at you confused and nods, "Yeah, of course, what's on your mind?"

You sit up properly and sigh, "I love you."

"Why do I hear a 'but' coming?" Jaemin asks, followed by a chuckle.

You look at Jaemin with pity, "Because there is a 'but'." You begin to tell him. You grab his hands and look at Jaemin in the eyes. You couldn't read his emotions at this moment, but you can tell by the way his hands began to sweat, he was dreading this. "I love you, but I think we need to break up," you confess.

"Break...up?" he asks, breathlessly.

You nod, tears beginning to fall from your eyes. "Being here made me realize something. I'm not ready for anything past this. I'm not ready to be far away from you, I'm not ready to have to deal with you being so far away sometimes, not even in the country," you tell him. "You're so busy, you're an idol, and I wish you nothing but the best, even if that's not with me."

Jaemin looks at you sadly, his eyes beginning to well up, "We can try, Y/n. We can try this long-distance thing. I can't let you go."

You shake your head, "It's also not just that, Jaem," you cry.

Jaemin looks at you confused, "Then what is it? Is it Soobin? Is it what your mom said at dinner to his mom?"

You couldn't say anything; your heart had dropped to your stomach, and you felt sick. "We're not right for each other, Jaemin, and it's not just the fact you're an idol and I'm some regular girl from Ansan," you tell him, letting go of his hand to wipe his tears. Your hand rests on his cheek, his eyes looking down. "I know you love me, Jaemin, but I can't just keep pretending we have a perfect relationship." You drop your hands and lay them in your lap. "It took you so long to support my decision to come back to Ansan; even when we were packing, you didn't want me to go back. You also doubted our relationship when we first got here," you stand up, "And I'm not saying it's your fault, because it's not, but even though I love you, Jaem, I'm not in love with you the same way I used to be."

Jaemin stands up and puts his hands in his pockets, "I'll pack now then and leave before anyone wakes up."

You bite your bottom lip, "I think that would be best." You give him one last kiss, "Goodnight." You go upstairs to your old room, now a room filled with your mom's collections, family pictures, and more.

You sit down, back against the door, and run your fingers through your hair. You grab your phone and look at the time; you click the boy's contact and wait for the line to pick up.

"Y/n?" you hear him say.

"Soobin," you whisper, sadness thick in your tone.

"Have you been crying?" he asks, genuinely worried.

You begin to sob lightly, "We broke up."
