days passed. after the night kartik had a breakdown, the goenka family went to the temple and did a small havan for kartik and naira.
the days went well. naira was also healing properly and overall everything was back to normal and so were gayu and samarth. gayu had given birth to a baby boy and came back after he turned three months old.
he was the most pampered kid. the men of the goenka family would lift the house over their heads if the baby ever cried.
the whole house was filled with different stuff toys, cars, baby clothes, and baby food. the atmosphere was the best for the baby.
"hey baby! you wait here massi will just wash her hands and feet and then play with you." the five month old giggled seeing his massi in front of him.
gayu noticed all this and had a smile on her face. she appreciated the fact that naira chose to clean herself first and then touch the baby.
keeping her bag on its place, naira took a quick shower and changed into a long light floral dress. she stepped down and played with baby.
"gayu di! can i keep vansh ?" naira said making all the ladies giggle.
"he is yours naira." gayu replied softly.
"gayu can you help me?" asked surekha who just came from the kitchen.
"yes di-" naira cut gayu off..
"arey di, its okay. i'll help you chachi." she stood up but stopped as gayu spoke.
"beta tu abhi aayi hai kaam se. its ok mai chali jaungi."
"aap aaram se baitho. mai kar dungi help. aap bhi toh poora din vansh ko sambhalte ho. rest karo." she shushed gayu and went to help surekha.
everyone including gayu smiled seeing her understanding nature. "she's gonna be a great mother." commented swarna fondly.
everyone smiled after hearing her. naira was in the kitchen when surekha dropped a bomb on her.
"what do you think about having kids naira?" she blurted.
"huh?"
"you heard me, what about having kids? don't you think it's time. i mean, you and kartik have been married since five years." said surekha.
"i don't know chachi... we never really got time to talk about all this." naira muttered.
surekha hummed and they both continued doing the work in the kitchen. after dinner, when naira came in the room, she saw kartik sitting on the bed with unreadable expressions.
"kartik?" she called out.
"huh?" he snapped out of his trance.
"are you worried about something? you can share with me, im sure we'll find a solution to it." she said calmly and ran her hands through his hairs.
"no, im just thinking.." he sighed.
"thinking about what?" she sat beside him.
"today, chachu and papa said, we should..." he trailed off.
".. we should plan a baby." he gulped and looked at her.
"chachi said the same thing to me as well.." naira sighed.
"are we ready?" kartik held naira's hand..
"i- i don't know. i'm scared. there is no harm though... we can, if you want. are you ready?" naira ranted.
"naira, jaan look. we both are scared and that's normal. let's just wait for a few months. so we can mentally be prepared, hm?" he cupped her cheek and gave a slight nod.
she sighed and nodded. taking a deep breath, they both fell asleep. the next few months weren't easy for both of them.
whenever naira went to the academy, surekha and suhasini always used to say— "work till the time baby isn't born. after than you won't get time."
this wasn't liked by naira along with swarna and gayu as well. naira always had a fake smile on her face which no one except kartik noticed because he was facing the same.
the time when the men used to be in the office, kartik used to hear— "you can enjoy but after the baby comes you will need to work more hard in the office."
samrth and kartik were always against this as they thought, a father's contribution in the upbringing of the baby is as important as the mother. moreover, the mother gets tired as well and she cannot be there everytime to save her child.
constantly hearing all this angered the five of them especially naira and kartik. "enough guys!" snapped kartik.
they were sitting in the hall after naira and kartik came from their work. "we are going to be parents not you. naira would be carrying our baby. its our decision." kartik exhaled sharply.
"arey vo ek baby hai! koi khilona nahi ki bazar gaye aur le aaye. hume bhi mentally prepare hone mei time lagega.." said naira.
everyone looked at them with shocked faces. "naira we were just telling you that it's the right time and—" surekha started but kartik cut her off.
"chachi we understand. but naira is the one who will carry our child and it's her body. we will work according to what is suitable for naira."
they both got up and started to leave when suhasini interrupted, "where are you going?"
"we don't know... we just need sometime alone." kartik said and walked out towards the car holding naira's hand.
both sat inside and kartik started driving. "thank god! we really needed this!" huffed naira.
"look naira, i don't have any problem in planning a baby. i just— i just need sometime you know? to mentally prepare myself for this. what kind of father would i be if i won't be able to understand what my child wants." kartik sighed and drove the car.
"i understand kartik and i need time as well. i would be the one who will carry our child. i don't want to be a bad mother for our child. being a parent, it's a huge responsibility. you take your life to a next level. it's not a kids game or some tv show where they show the whole pregnancy period in just an hour and finished. it's so much more than that." naira put out her perspective as well.
"i understand love and we both will plan a baby whenever we're totally ready to take this step." kartik squeezed her hand in reassurance.
naira nodded understandingly and kept her head on his shoulder while he drove. they just needed a moment of peace amd they couldn't get it here.
the prevailing silence somewhere calmed their minds. they just needed each other's presence and that's it. stopping near a deserted road, kartik parked the car and they both came out.
taking a deep breath, naira forwarded her hand to him and he gladly accepted it. both kept walking and walking till they found a nice place which was comforting.
sitting on the shore of a lake, they dipped their feet in it and just sat there in silence. the sound of the night insects, trees rustling and their rhythmic breathing were soothing enough to make them relaxed.
they spent their whole night, holding hands, sitting by the lakeside and just thinking about their future.
