Soulmates had assumedly existed since the dawn of time. However, each person had something unique shared between themselves and their soulmate. This had caused quite a bit of tension between the Socs and Greasers given their history together. Everyone on each side could quite literally only pray their soulmate wasn't of the opposite social class.
Archer & Darry:
The way their connection manifested was through dreams once the each turned 15, but not any ordinary dreams. They had dreams of each others big life events, the things that would ultimately shape them into the person they'd become. However, important faces, names, places, etc. were completely blurred. If at any point they were to run into one another, the dreams would stop, at least they were supposed to. Archer had seen Soda and Pony come home from the hospital after being born, she had seen Darry's father teach him how to install roofing and do other handy jobs, she had witnessed his parents' funeral, etc.. Darry had experienced Dally come home from the hospital after being born, he had seen her mother belittle her and Dally every chance she got, he was the only witness outside of Dally to her father's mürder, etc.. Then suddenly the dreams stopped, but neither of them had connected the dots between meeting each other and the dreams stopping. Sure, the two weren't the best of friends according to each other, but even Steve constantly teased them about being made for each other. One night while Darry is going through the bills, Archer walks in, "I stole groceries!!" She announces to the house proudly, but what she did next quickly caused Darry to connect the dots since he had heard her say it to Dally a million times in his dreams, "And robbed the cashier." She winks and sets the money on the table in front of him, giggling softly at the look on his face, "Why're you lookin' at me like that?" She asks with a nervous smile. Darry???
You & y/c:
Yours and y/c's connection manifested in more than one way, but both were complicated and often painful thanks to y/c being a greaser. You two could feel each others emotions AND shared wounds. For example: if y/c got jumped, you felt the anxiety during it and bruises formed on your body afterwards. If y/c's cheek was cut then yours was bruised in the same exact spot and vise versa. Unfortunately for you, this type of connection was one you guys would have forever, even past meeting, which was rare. One night y/c gets jumped and while they manage to hold their own, they had obviously gotten stābbed in or cut on the stomach since you had a large, dark and VERY painful bruise on your own stomach. As if on cue, ten minutes later y/c bursts into the Curtis house holding pressure tightly on their stomach, collapsing on the ground by the door, "It wasn't a Soc, it was Tim Shepard." They announce, though that wasn't surprising considering Tim liked to fight just to fight, "Well don't just stare at me like a ghost when I'm about to become one!! Help me out here!" They announce to your dramatically. You???
