We stayed up most of the night just talking and hanging out. Around 3 a.m. we migrated from the edge of the building to sitting next to each other on the ground while still looking at the view. I wanted to stay up and watch the sunrise but my body was betraying me. She wanted to fall asleep no matter how much my brain was trying to fight her to stay awake.
"Angela, are you tired?" Dick murmured.
I shook my head no, but my head was drooping constantly and it was getting hard to keep my eyes open.
"You look tired. C'mon, let's go back to the tower." He stood up and offered his hand to me. I sighed defeated. I never wanted this night to end, curse me and my impeccable sleep schedule. I took his hand and he helped hoist me off the ground.
"Can we do this again?" I ask in a sleepy haze. He chuckled and nodded.
"Of course we can."
"Okay, great. Because this was fun." We made our way back down to his motorcycle and he placed the helmet on my head.
"You really gotta get more than one of these. Safety should be your main priority." I say.
"Your safety is my main priority." He closes the visor and taps the top of the helmet. "Hop on."
I rolled my eyes but couldn't hide my smile as I climbed onto the bike behind him. My exhaustion was catching up with me, but the thrill of the ride and the night's events kept my eyes open. We sped through the nearly empty streets of Gotham, the wind whipping past us and the city lights blurring together.
The ride back to the tower was shorter than I'd hoped. I wanted to savor every second, but all too soon, we were pulling into the garage. Dick parked the bike and helped me off, his hands steadying me as my tired legs wobbled.
"Alright, sleepyhead," he said with a grin. "Time for bed."
I nodded, too tired to argue. We made our way inside, and the quiet of the early morning surrounded us. As we reached the elevator, I leaned against the wall, my eyes barely staying open.
"Hey," Dick said softly, nudging me gently as the elevator doors opened. "You awake?"
"Barely," I mumbled.
He laughed and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, guiding me towards my room. "Come on, almost there."
He walked me to my door where we were greeted by an angry looking Robin leaning against it. Oh great, the last thing I needed right now was a confrontation. Damian took one look at us walking in together and Dick's arm around my shoulders and turned red.
"Are you FUCKING kidding me?" He hissed walking towards us. I flinched at the tone of his voice even if it wasn't directed totally at me. "I knew something was going on. The portal hopper never leaves her room past 11."
Is my new nickname portal hopper?
"And you," He pointed at Dick with a look filled with venom. "You just can't help yourself can you? Every girl that walks through here you just have to try and get."
Dick removed his arm from around my shoulder and squared up to him, "What is your problem?"
"What?" Damian spat out.
"What is your real issue here right now? It's not Angela and it's not the fact that we just hung out. You don't give a shit about that. So what the fuck is your issue Damian?"
"It's YOU!" He yells. "You're my fucking issue! You walk around here like you own the place. Letting this stranger stay here! Letting her strange recluse friend stay here too! We don't know these people! And then you let her and Zatanna comindeer the fucking training room for half a week without consulting me! This is my fucking team now Dick and you need to remember that. You're here as a courtesy to Father. But you don't run shit in this building."
