It had been 40 minutes in the helicopter, and the terrain outside had unmistakably transformed into the stark, arid landscape of New Mexico. Mesas and deserts stretched out as far as the eye could see, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. The desolate beauty of the land was lost on the soldiers, their minds focused on the impending mission.

Adrian's squad consisted of himself, four other guys, and their captain. The cramped interior of the helicopter was filled with the low hum of engine noise and the occasional crackle of the radio. The tension was palpable, each man lost in his own thoughts, preparing for whatever lay ahead.

"Man, if this is another 'search and rescue' operation, I'm gonna be pissed," Ramirez muttered, breaking the silence. His voice was tinged with frustration, the monotony of previous missions weighing heavily on him.

Davis smirked and pointed at Adrian. "Yeah, I'm gonna be pissed too when I gotta search and rescue your sorry ass," he quipped, earning a few chuckles from the others.

Ramirez seized the opportunity to lighten the mood further. "Hey, Shephard! I think Jackson here's got the hots for you," he said, his tone dripping with mock seriousness.

Adrian rolled his eyes, his patience wearing thin. He had no time for their juvenile banter, especially not now. "Fuck yourself Ramirez," he snapped, his voice low and dangerous. "Focus on the mission."

The captain, a grizzled veteran with a stern demeanor, glanced over at them. "Keep it together, men. We're almost there. Stay sharp."

The helicopter banked slightly, and the Black Mesa Research Facility came into view, a sprawling complex nestled amid the desert. It looked innocuous from the air, just another collection of buildings and infrastructure. But the sense of foreboding that had been with Adrian all day now intensified. Something about this place felt off.

As the helicopter continued its flight, Davis looked around, a puzzled expression on his face. "Hey man, where the hell are we anyway?" he asked.

Jackson, always ready with a quip, replied, "Well, the pilot thought we were heading to your mother's house, heh. So far this all looks familiar."

"Yeah, that's real cute, Jackson," Davis said, shaking his head. Adrian stayed quiet. Normally dark and sarcastic, he found himself holding back around these assholes. He fucking hated them.

Adrian looked out the window at another helicopter flying alongside them. The sight of the other chopper was a reminder of the scale of their deployment. This wasn't just a routine mission.

"This has training mission written all over it," Ramirez said, voicing his thoughts. "Why else would they have kept our orders from us for so long, huh?"

Adrian didn't respond, but inwardly he agreed. The secrecy, the sudden deployment, and the lack of briefings all pointed to something larger at play. He couldn't shake the feeling that they were being thrown into the deep end without a lifeline.

The radio crackled again, and the pilot's voice came through. "Approaching LZ. Get ready to disembark."

The soldiers checked their gear one last time, the light-hearted banter giving way to grim determination.

As the helicopter continued its flight with the squad inside, the captain moved forward, preparing to brief them on their mission. "Listen up, men. We're being dropped into a heavy combat zone," he began, but his voice was abruptly drowned out by a deafening roar that sounded almost like a jet flying overhead.

Adrian's eyes widened in alarm as he looked out the window. What he saw made his blood run cold. The other helicopter flying alongside them had an alien-looking creature hovering above it, shaped like a massive stingray. The creature's body pulsed with an eerie green glow.
