MCKENNA GREEN

"And when I looked over to my left, I saw her thong that she had on. Tell me why I thought I saw something on it, so I kicked it with my foot. Why did this girl have a whole, thick line mind you, of dookie trial in her panties. I just grabbed on my stuff and dipped because what," Dray'Quan said causing all of us to laugh.

"I hope you didn't hit it before you saw that," Tay laughed and looked at Quan. He side eyed him causing Tay's eyes to widen.

"Yo Quan you wildn'. I thought you'd be smarter than that nah. I'm always checking Natalie's drawls. She ain't finna trick me," KD said referring to his girlfriend while scrunching his face up and shaking his head. I just laugh at my brothers. One thing about it, they always have a crazy story to tell, especially ones that include .. you know.

"McKenna, bring yo tail downstairs. I'm tired of you leaving these dishes in here for me to wash by myself. If I cook, you're gonna clean em. Come on," I hear my mother yell from upstairs. I roll my eyes and plaster a fake smile onto my face. Silence surrounds the room. "Looks like duty calls," I get off the gray bean bag chair and walk towards the steps .

"She said duty," Dray'Quan laughs and Tay just punches him in the shoulder.

"We can come and help sis, if you want," Tay suggests which causes Quan's eyes to widen and shake his head no at me. I always thought it was unfair when I have four older brothers that can take care of dishes and cooking, because they are capable of these things, but my mother still somehow makes me do it all the time. Aren't they the older siblings, why do I need to help? It gotta be because I'm a girl.

"Nah you good. Besides you know how mom gets, she'll blame it on me like I made ya'll come up there when you guys came on your volition," I roll my eyes and Quan looks at me funny.

"You know I hate it when you use them big words. Let me go look it up on urban dictionary right now," he says whipping out his phone. I shake my head and walk up the stairs, out of the den we've made for ourselves. My momma and daddy have five kids together, there's nine kids in this house. The two came from my step dad who my momma married not too long after my daddy went to jail for life and told her she should move on from him. And the other two my momma and step dad had together.

She still goes to see my dad once in a blue moon but I respect my daddy for that regardless. Unpopular opinion but if I were in jail for life I wouldn't want my man to have to feel like he gotta stick with me to the end because that will be my end.. you know?

I huff when I get into the kitchen and see my momma hand on her hip. "Took you long enough. Nobody is playing with you McKenna Grace. You need to clean up the messes you've made."

"But I didn't eat tonight. The only plates that are in the sink are yours, dads, Quan's, and nem"-

"That don't matter, now get to it," she snaps her fingers towards the sink. I roll my eyes and huff listening to her. I be so sick and tired of this, I'm ready for senior year so I can get the heck out of here.

There's no reason for my three big backed, should be in college, lazy bones, chicken wing legs, mega mind faced big brothers couldn't come up here and clean these dishes right after they ate them. I hate when they do this.. and mind you they do this often. Once I'm done with cleaning. I grab my phone, charger, and AirPods and take them upstairs with me to my room. I throw my stuff on my bed, when I get there and flop on it automatically.

My violet colored satin sheets cause me to nudge my body into the mattress deeper. "I love this feeling," I smile with my eyes closed. I also love the smell of my Victoria Secret that's scents my room.

"Can I come in Ken?" I hear my baby sister's voice ask. I huff loudly and groan into my satin pillow. "Come in Sydney," I say loud enough for her to hear. I hear my door open and her little giggles. She closes my door behind her and slowly walks towards my bed.  She takes forever but I know that's probably because she's scared of the dark.

"Can I tell you something."

"Always. What's up?"

"Can I sleep with you tonight," Sydney ask. I feel her small body laying next to me. I sigh and tell her yes she can. Sydney is the baby and she's attached to me by the hip. Sometimes it's cute other times I can slide down a walls and throw up. Her catch phrase is cute though.

"Lay down babe. Goodnight," I kiss her cheek.

"Night sissy," I feel her kiss my cheek and lay back down. Sooner than later she goes to sleep while I'm looking at ASMR. Not food eating ASMR though, that's nasty as ion know what.

the next day

When I wake up, Sydney isn't near me anymore. I scrunch my face up and stretch and I feel my bed vibrating. "What are these hoodlums up to now," I roll my eyes and hop out of my bed. I put my long black rope on and wrap it around myself. When I open the door, Not Like Us by Kendrick is blasting through the hallway.

"What is going on," I mumble to myself. I walk towards Quan's room and nobody's in there and I do the same with Tay and KD. "Mom" I yell down the stairs but either she's not in the house or she can't hear me. When I hear something shatter, it causes me to look up at the attic entrance.

"Of course," I say and pull on the rope. The door opens and once I walk up there, I immediately start hacking and wiping the smoke out of my face. "Why ya'll hotboxing in the attic," I say once I walk towards my brothers and two of their homeboys. They all share the same friends... then again it would make sense because we got a big family and they do a lot together.

"What," Quan cups his ear trying to hear me. His eyes look closed and I shake my head and repeat myself again. "Huh? We can't hear you Ken," KD says his face neutral. I roll my eyes and look over at the speaker before unplugging it.  All the boys sigh and groan but I don't care for real. They gonna hear what I have to say.

"I said why ya'll boys hotboxing in the attic but now ion really care about that. Why in the world is the speaker so loud man. I'm trying to get my beauty rest," I cross my arms over my chest. One of their homeboys, Malachai, laughs at me and my brothers and I turn towards him.

"What's so funny Chai," Tay ask him.

"Right," Quan raises his left eyebrow up.

"Nun nun man. But she talking about some beauty rest like she a princess or some. She ain't important like that. You'll be fine Ken. You ain't even cute for real," he laughs louder.

"Man get out," KD shook his head. Malachai looks confused until he sees how our faces look.

"Wait, you guys  for real? You know I was playing," he sucked his teeth and Quan rolled his eyes before standing up, "And I'm not. Deuces."

I do a peace sign as he walks out. One thing about my brothers, they don't play about me. "Now, why you up here with just a robe on Ken? You know we don't get down like that, go put on some clothes. You can join if you want once you're together," Quan sits back down and I nod my head all quick, excited.

I almost trip up when I make it down the attic and into my room.
