"Principal Bolan is just asking that we do something." Courtney Crimsen said to a frustrated Jessica and Nessa in the student council meeting.

"He just wants an excuse to celebrate the damn athletes again!" Jessica cried, clearly annoyed as Nessa nodded beside her.

"That sentence just about sums up my entire experience at Liberty." Nessa added.

"Okay, first of all Nessa, those athletes were your friends. Some of them still are." Courtney told her. "Besides, it's been a difficult time for the whole school."

"Fuck off, Courtney." Nessa retorted at her comment. "It's complete and total bullshit."

"So, in light of the stressful events, Principal Bolan wants us to come up with some ideas to promote school unity."

Nessa looked over as she heard the door creak open. Ani, their new friend from lunch, was standing in the doorway, watching the events unfold.

"Oh, that's fucking ridiculous and you know it, Courtney." Jessica retorted, and Courtney rolled her eyes.

"Can the secretary please strike 'fucking' from the record?" Courtney said in annoyance, and Nessa wanted to scream. Nothing was getting accomplished.

"I don't really actually take notes, but okay." the boy said as he reached into his backpack on the floor beside him, and Courtney ignored him.

"I mean, why are we even talking about unity?" Jessica asked, rather snapped. "That's just like the administration wanting us to sit down and shut up and not burn anymore baseball fields."

"We really don't need more school spirit." Nessa added to Jessica's rant. "We need some actual change in this school. Right?"

"Preach." Courtney said as she threw her hand up.

"I mean, people are just done." Jessica continued as she turned to look at the students on the other side. "We're pissed off, and athletes are the problem!"

"Jess, you're a cheerleader." a girl said. "And Nessa, you may as well be."

"I used to be a cheerleader." Jessica snapped back.

"And I never was." Nessa replied, rather annoyed by that snarky comment.

"Guys, please." Courtney tried to contain the chaos, but she was unsuccessful.

"Everyone blames the athletes." a jock piped up from the body of students.

"Wake up, athletes are the fucking issue." Nessa snapped at the boy, who was leaning forward in his chair in frustration.

"The cause of everything? That's bull."

"Yes, everything! You're bullies and –"

Courtney began to bang her gavel on the table to gather some sort of order, but everyone ignored the agitating sound.

"Stop banging the hammer!" the same girl snapped.

"It's called a gavel." Courtney cried, and Jessica and Nessa just continued on as if nothing else mattered.
