"This house don't feel
like home"

*A couple weeks later*

I kept running. And running. Abuelo was chasing me like a hawk. "Get back here you little shit!" I then saw a pharmacy in my view, I quickly ran inside the pharmacy, hoping I would loose him. Once I got into the pharmacy, everyone's eyes were on me.

I was sweating from head to toe.

"Reyna?"

I looked around to see Penelope with a worried look on her face. "Dulce (sweetie), is everything ok?" She said as Penelope was rubbing my shoulder. I then heard the doorbell pharmacy door ring.

"REYNA SÁNCHEZ!"

I quickly grabbed Penelope's arm and dragged her. I was running as fast as I can, dragging Penelope's arm. "Reyna!" I was holding in my tears as I dragged Penelope into the bathroom.

I let go of Pen's arm and rested my hands on the bathroom sink. I was letting all my tears fall in the sink. "Aye, Reyna. What's going on?" I looked at Penelope through the mirror. I looked at myself in the mirror to see my eyes were red and puffy.

"My abuelo is chasing me."

"Why is he- Oh.."

BANG! BANG!

I quickly ran to the corner of the bathroom. My abuelo ran into the bathroom. "Oh, you think it's funny to run. You have no where to go!" My abuelo yells. "Listen Reyna's grandpa, she always has-" Abuelo then smacked Penelope across the face. "HEY! Don't touch her!" I then slammed my abuelo against the wall.

*Two hours later*

I was in Lydia's arms as she was stroking my hair while Schneider and Penelope is talking to the police. Alex and Elena were sitting on the chairs at the table. "Thank you Officer Ivan."

Penelope then closed the door shut and looked over to me with a sympathetic expression. Penelope sat next to me and Lydia let go of me so I could sit up properly.

"Tell me what happened...everything."

I looked over at Schneider. He was the only one who knew the story of it all. He was really the only one I could really trust. "Look, I'm from the army. I've dealt with gilipollas (assholes) like him before." I chuckled a little bit as I looked down at the floor. I was playing with my ring again and my leg was shaking. "What I'm saying is, you don't have to tell us, Reyna. But I want you to come to us, even your stupid step-step-stepbrother." Smiled a little bit and so did Schneider. "You shouldn't have to feel like you should hide stuff from your guardian or trusted adult, because they can give you help...keep you safe," Penelope started to tear up and so did I.

I looked back at Schneider and he nodded.

"June 17th, 2004. My mother Maria gave birth to me... and also fled back home." I heard Lydia gasped. "Aye, Reyna." I sniffled in my sleeve as I felt rain drops of tears on my skin.Penelope started to wipe some of her tears streaming down her face.

"She got deported back to the Philippines, leaving my father, Mason, to take care of me." Alex and Elena started to walk towards me. "Your father must have been a kind man." Alex said as I gave him a half smile. "He was...towards the end." I said as Lydia looked at me.

"Que?"

"My father, Mason, use to beat me. It gotten so bad that he saw how much he was hurting me instead of taking care of me. After that, he promised me he would change and be a better father. And he was, till we found out he was sick. The Doctor's said he wasn't going to make it, but he made it one more year till he passed."

"Aye, pequeño."

"Before he passed, he gave me this ring. He told me my mother wanted me to have this on my fifteenth birthday. But it never happened. After the funeral, the police wanted my abuelo to take me in, but he was away on business. So that's why Schneider took me in for those two days. Everything was going fine at abuelo's the first three days...until it wasn't."

I looked at everyone. I took a big breath in and took my jacket off to reveal the scars on my arms and back. Everyone gasped in shock. "Reyna, why didn't you call me?" Schneider said as I pulled my jacket back up. "I was afraid you were gonna send me to my step-step-stepfather." I said, mentioning Schneider's dad.

I hated Schneider's dad. He was a terrible father and person to Schneider.

"My abuelo started drinking again. He started to go down the dark path again. Apparently his little business trip wasn't actually a trip. So that's why I ran, and that's how I ran into you."

I looked over at Lydia and smiled a little. "Schneider told me you're exactly like my mamá." Lydia smiled at me and brings me into a hug. "You should've came to us, mi cielito." (My little heaven.) I smiled at my new nickname. "I like that nickname mamá. Mi Cielito." I looked up at Penelope and smiled.

"What does Mi Cielito mean?" Elena asked, then Alex replies with, "it means my little heaven." I looked up at Alex and smiled. "My papá use to call me that." I smiled as I let my tears stream down my face.

"Well, you're gonna live with Schneider from now on. Basically means you're living with us." Penelope said.

"Thank you Mrs Alvarez."

"No, call me mom, I insist."

"Call me Abuelita." I smiled at everyone in the room. "Thank you all so much. It means a lot to me." I then got an overwhelming amount of hugs. "Welcome to the family, Cielito."
