ember park stood out in the conklin family. like a sore thumb. she wasn't like steven or belly, she was different from them. and she hates that it might be the cause of laurel and john's divorce.

LAUREL AND JOHN got happily married after they had Steven Conklin. But before that, there was Ember Park. Laurel had a short term relationship before John Conklin. With Ember's father. The two split up and Laurel met John shortly after. But there was a twist. She was pregnant, carrying Ember.
John told her he'd still stick by her side, that he'd be Ember's step-father. But the ridicule that came from it as Steven and Belly grew up with a half-black sister, was what tore Laurel and John apart. At least that's what Ember thinks happened. She noticed the two becoming less lovey-dovey as she and her younger siblings got older. Maybe it truly was her fault, she had first thought when the divorce was finalized between them.
That year was when she got into drinking with people her age, lost in her bad habits and hanging out with Levi Jewel all the time, the older brother of her little sister's best friend. At first, it was light-hearted, just drinking and partying on the weekends.
But then she gave up debate which she had been doing since she was in middle school, she even stopped playing soccer and of course, all of it goes unnoticed by everyone. Everyone except for Conrad Fisher who knows her better than anyone, he knows her even better than Levi or her family know her.
