It was always so cold where Sofia lived. Usually snowing... Or just generally cold. Today, was a relatively colder day than most. It was snowing lightly, probably freezing to the average person visiting for family. Or just as a trip.
Sofia was heading home, after a long day of work having Bieng the sole provider of her home at only 16. The sun setting, The sky getting darker, The air getting chillier...
It was a peaceful night, at least in Sofia's point of view. The forest she lived in always had pretty flowers. It was lush, even in the snow.
Even with the danger of bears, the forest had a sense of peace in it. But...There was something wrong Tonight, it was almost instinctual. Something was not right, something was off.. but it was hard to tell exactly what was off. All Sofia knew was that...
Something didn't feel right here... Not tonight.
While Sofia walked she began to get worried. Usually... There was.. sound, in the forest. Whether it be crickets, or just the animals minding their business doing their own thing. But.. it was..
Silent
Almost to silent. It was worrying in a way... But.. Sofia continued on, she needed to get home before it got too late, as to avoid a verbal reprimand from her mother.
No sound.. it was so quiet. The crickets were quiet. The only sound Bieng the wind, and Sofia's soft footsteps.( Time skip )
.
.
.About fifteen minutes of Sofia walking. She arrived home, a dinky little house. It might as well be a shack. There was a small garden, with fruits and vegetables. The garden... Was intact, which was a good sign.. supposably. At least nobody had been playing in the garden, like Sofia's little brothers; Jackey and James did last week.
But... There was something off. It was like nobody was home, the lights were off. And as Sofia stood in front of the house. A.. almost worried look on her face.
"What time was it again?"
She'd think to herself. As she took a short glance into one of the dark windows of the.. almost abandoned house. It was.. around 6 at night. Not that late, but it was dark outside..
Usually Sofia's mom would be cooking dinner at this point.. but.. no lights were on, and the usual sound of her brother's playing wasn't there. It was like it gone... Mute.
.
.
.There was a odd smell. It was almost raw. As Sofia walked in the house, it was... So dark, she had to squint to see around. Even then her sight was limited. As she looked around. Trying to see, all of the oil lamps were blown out. Obviously. She could tell that atleast.
The second thing she could tell, was some of the stuff in the house was broken. Like a fight happened. Which only served to worry her more.That... Raw smell. It smelt.. almost horrid. Something wasn't right here but Sofia couldn't exactly tell what..
It smelt like something was dead and rotting here. Absolutely... Disgusting. Sofia had to punch her nose to prevent herself from gagging. As she made her way through the house. Careful not to bump into anything. Or trip on her feet...
Or step on some of the broken glass scattered aroundBut... As she walked, she went to the bedroom. Well, her mother's bedroom. Where the smell was strongest. To see what the Hell that smell was. And see if she can find where her family has gone. It was like they disappeared.
.
.
.
When she opened the door.. one of the only rooms with a sizeable window to let natural light in.. the dim moonlight lighting up the room, just barely enough to see..
Blood
Blood, everywhere. Splattered. Panic set in Sofia's mind. Did something happen? Did a bear break in? No .. no bear. More stuff would have been broken if it was a bear. Then.. she looked by the bed.Her mother, was there. Laying. On her stomach, on the floor one of her arms laying nearby the body, blood seeping out in a deep red puddle. Her back ripped open.
Sofia, froze... That had been the smell? That nasty raw smell? Her very own mother? Dead on the cold floor... She couldn't believe her eyes. Tears welled up in her eyes... And fell..
then, she felt an intense wave of nausea pass through her bodySofia felt sick, terriblly... terribly sick. and she fell to her knees. And threw up, at the sight of her very own mother... Dead, and ripped open.
As Sofia looked at her mother. Waves of nausea passing through her like the great waves of the sea. Barf tainting her teeth, and spilling into the floor.
That was the smell, that... Raw smell.
It was the body of her dead mother.
But if Sofia's mother was... Here, dead...
Where were her brothers?...Fear set in Sofia's body, as she scrambled up, not taking any more time to look at her mother's lifeless body as she ran around the house. Desperately searching for her brothers...
The bathroom? Empty.
Living room? Empty
Kitchen.... Empty.
Even the basement was empty. But.. as she passed the backdoor.. it was... Cracked open... And Sofia came to a halt. Slowly looking at the door. Petrified of where her brothers could be... No way thy could be dead.. they had to be alive. They had to have run away from whatever had killed her mother.
But... Just to be sure...
To try to rest her mind..
She went closer to the back door, and pushed it open... Until it was wide open. And she peered into the backyard. And she saw...
James, laying on his side. Organs spilled out from his stomach. His eyes... Wide open. Dead. Her eyes widened in horror, and she felt another wave of intense nausea pass over her. But she swallowed her intense need to regurgitate... And went over to the body. Trying not to cry,
Surely jackey had to have escaped... Right? The shed.
The shed door, it was unlocked. How Sofia knew this, there was always chains around the door. Because James and Jackey always used to play in there where the sharp tools were. It was for safety reasons.
But... The chains were gone. And.. the door was unlocked. It wasn't open.Sofia felt many emotions at once. She felt... Frozen in time. Like nothing was real. That this had to be a dream.
She also felt... Petrified. She hadn't expected to come home to this when she got home... She expected her mother... Happily greeting her with a warm... Loving smile, and her brothers playing in the front yard.
Not this nightmare. But...
She swallowed her fear. Trying her best to be brave. Her mother would have wanted her to stay strong. Her father would have wanted her to be brave ..As she moved closer to the shed door.. she could faintly hear a sound inside of the shed... Like a crunching sound. The sound of somebody eating.
She felt tears threatening to escape her eyes. Her bottom lip quivering with fear... And... A sense of hopelessness as he reality very slowly set in.She put her hand on the handle. It causing a small sound as the doorhandle readjusted to the small weight of her hand. A faint creak.
The sound stopped.
.
.
.
A deafening silence took over. Her mind, body... And senses.And... She slowly opened the shed door to see...
