Blue Streak

Chapter 1

When I was born, my father was already working at Jurassic World, he was preparing to raise the velociraptors once they hatched, so when I was born he gave me the name of Colorado, because of one of the places the raptors were found 65 million years ago. He often called me his own little dinosaur because soon I developed a love for the prehistoric animals just as he did.

When I was three my father started training the velociraptors. He brought them home with him every night after a long day of training, and then they would sleep with me in my bed. I grew up with the raptors as my family; I had no other brothers or sisters. Blue was always the sister who I got into trouble with, Echo was the calm, collected sibling, Charlie was the devil of the family, away causing everyone to get into mischief, and Delta was the 'older' sister who always got annoyed with the rest of us. Soon after my father started training the raptors, InGen did an experiment on me, injecting velociraptor DNA into my bloodstream. My father was furious when he found out, but there was nothing to be done afterwards.

By the time I was five I had started helping my dad around the park. By then the raptor DNA was well into my system, and I could talk (in both English and Raptor) fluently, as well as begin to run at the speed of a young velociraptor. My eyes had turned a light mint green with black slits in them, representing a raptor's eyes. I always thought they were cool, but sometimes I got a little self conscious when people pointed them out. The habitat for the raptors had now been built, and we took them there every day to train and exercise them, but they all still slept at my Dad's little 'bungalow' as he liked to call it.

When I was eight we had already moved the girls into their constructed habitat long ago. I remember they had all been reluctant at first,  especially Blue, but with a little bait we had eventually managed to coax them into their new (well, old-ish) home. Training had become harder then; they had still been wary of their new surroundings. By now I was well used to my 'raptor senses' and 'abilities' as I called them. I often was put in charge of feeding the raptors as it was easiest for me, as they wouldn't try to bite my hands off when I gave them their food.

The time that I turned thirteen I was occasionally working at the Petting Zoo, and of course helping my dad with the raptors. I often spent most of my time with the raptors, often messing about with Charlie, or talking with Blue. I could communicate to the raptors in both English and in their tongue of growls and clicks. Often my dad would tease my by clicking my clicker, which often caused me to glance up, startled, and then give him a playful glare. By now every employee on the island most likely new about my 'condition' as 'raptor girl.' Most of the time I was fine with it, my dad often (still) called me his little dinosaur, which by now the nickname had stuck. But it seemed appropriate.

I'm sixteen now, turning seventeen in a month or two. My name's Colorado Grady, and I train the velociraptors along with my father, Owen Grady. I've lived on Isla Nublar all my life, with the exception of going to New York for my sixteenth birthday for a week. Soon I'll be learning how to train the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and I currently work shifts at the Gentle Giants Petting Zoo and give tours around the park. I'm also vital for park vets, as I'm the only one who can talk and understand the velociraptors. Another ability I now have is scales. I can transform my skin into dark, brown, leathery scales whenever I feel like it. It's pretty cool, and it helps me camouflage when I want to avoid certain conversations or meetings. I love my life, especially my job, because it allows me to interact with my favourite animals in the world. Dinosaurs.
