A mechanical ring chimes, a series of notes playing one after the other indicating a visitor to the lab. The lizard-like monster wearing glasses groaned at the thought of interacting with another one of its kind.

"Who could it be? Ringing at such a time, tsk..." She said while tinkering with some kind of device on a table.

She continued, delegating the boring and mundane task to her assistant.

"Ton-ton, please activate the front door cameras."

Before her was a large TV bolted to the ceiling. The masses of wires connecting to the TV were all tangled up and yet somehow still managed to provide it the necessary electricity to run.

A robotic voice responds with an air of mockery.

"Really? You created a competent and conscious AI just so that you don't have to click a few extra buttons?"

The flat line displayed on the TV shifted like a sine wave, each hill, and dip representing the intricacies of monster-like speech. It mimicked disbelief, annoyance, and snarkiness perfectly all at the same time.

"Again with this backtalk. Sigh... I regret giving you the sarcasm module."

"Hah, sucks to be you I guess."

The doorbell rang again.

"Just activate the cameras," The lizard asked again.

"Fiinnne, but you owe me that physical body you promised," The voice replied.

"Didn't know I could get extorted to such a degree for this simple of a task," She muttered to herself.

The massive electronic display flashed on, showing a familiar fish monster who was getting more and more agitated by the moment.

"Oh my god, it's Undyne. What is she doing here? She must be getting deep-fried in that suit of armor! Shit, Ton-ton, open the lab doors!"

"Really? You can't do it yourself?" It answered, annoyed.

"This isn't the time! I'll get you that new sleek body, just open the damn door already!"

"Wow. For someone so smart, you really are starved in actual interactions, Alphys." Metaton's voice droned

The bell rings again. And again. And again. Looks like Undyne is losing her patience.

Her cheeks flushed pink in an instant.

"You know what? How about I trash that design? Actually, I have a better idea. Maybe I should just install a better, more obedient logic core? One that won't allow you to blatantly ignore my orders? How does that sound, mister witty comeback?"

"Whatever, I'll open the doors so that your little girlfriend doesn't get charred before you get the chance to talk to her."

"Metaton!" Alphys screams.

The front doors whirl open, letting a gust of scalding air into the lab.

"By Asgore's beard, what was taking you so long? It was like an oven out there," Undyne growled in irritation.

The lab doors close behind Undyne. The ventilation began blasting cold air to compensate for the temperature imbalances created by the door opening.

"S-sorry. Ahem, my assistant was having a bit of computing issues," The final words dripping with contempt.

"Really? I was messing up? Maybe you shou—"

"AHEM, if you want to keep any chances of getting what you want, I suggest you stop talking," Alphys said.
