I waltzed into the inn, backpack on my shoulder, and my hair tied up in a messy ponytail. The familiar scent of wood greeted me as I made my way to the reception desk. "Hi Michel," I greeted him with a warm smile, propping my elbows on the desk and resting my head in my hands. "Get your elbows off my desk," Michel scolded me as he stood. I chuckled and walked behind him, tossing my bag down and grabbing the other one I had stashed on the shelves below. "What, stop hiding your things here, go away," Michel said as I chuckled and playfully nudged him before hurrying off to the bathroom to freshen up.
I pulled off the ugly Chilton uniform and stuffed it into my bag, glad for the week to be over. Surprisingly, I had made a lot of friends from the art club, and that made it tolerable. The food wasn't bad, but the actual curriculum was a lot tougher. I quickly pulled on some jeans and a random band tee I grabbed while rushing out of the house this morning. I let my hair down, the curls stopping just above my chest, and slipped on my converse.
I made my back out and threw my bag under the desk before making my way to the kitchen. As I entered the warm and inviting space, I called out softly, "Sookie, you in here?" I didn't want to startle the already busy chef, who was bustling around with pots and pans. "Chrissy, hey, sweety, I just made your favorite cookies," Sookie greeted me with a warm smile as she placed a plate of freshly baked cookies on the counter. I couldn't resist grabbing one and savoring the sweet treat as it melted in my mouth. The aroma of the cookies filled the room, creating a cozy and comforting atmosphere.
"How's the wedding going?" I leaned against the counter, watching the staff moving around frantically. "It's fine, but they are so particular. Everything has to be just right," she replied, a hint of exhaustion in her voice. "I've never heard of twins marrying twins," I said, my mouth full of the delicious cookie, "their kids will be siblings. It's like a family reunion every day!" She chuckled, shaking her head at the thought of the unique family dynamics that would unfold in the future.
Speaking of family, in comes Lorelai. "They are driving me crazy." I laughed. "I thought me and Rory already got you there." She whipped her head around, her eyes wide with surprise. "When did you get here?" I replied nonchalantly, "Like 20 minutes ago." She just stared at me curiously, clearly puzzled. "How did you get here?" I couldn't help but chuckle. "Hitched a ride with a friend." Lorelai raised an eyebrow, looking slightly impressed. "It takes forty minutes to get here...school ended at 3...it's 3:50." I grinned mischievously. "She speeds..." Lorelai shook her head with a mix of amusement and disbelief, realizing that my unorthodox mode of transportation had gotten me there faster than expected.
"Is Rory still stuck playing golf?" I asked, laughing at the thought of her struggling on the course. "Yes, she's been searching for the perfect golfing outfit all morning," my mother replied with a smile. "It's always entertaining to see her dedication to the game," I remarked, causing her to playfully glare at me. Feeling mischievous, I quickly grabbed a handful of cookies from the table and made a run for it. Just as I reached the front of the house, Michel interrupted our playful banter by announcing, "You have a phone call waiting for you..."
Independence Inn, this is Chrissy," I said as I picked up the phone, my heart skipping a beat at the sound of his voice. "Well, hello, Pixie," he greeted me, his words causing a warm sensation to spread across my face. "You found me," I responded with a hint of amusement in my tone. "I have my ways," he chuckled, his voice filled with mischief. "So, are you and your friends up for some fun tomorrow?" he inquired, his invitation hanging in the air, sparking excitement in me. "I think we can make that happen," I replied with a smile, already looking forward to it.
I ran back into the kitchen to see my mom still chatting with Sookie. I skidded to a stop, panting heavily and leaning on my knees for support. "Mom, can I sleep over at Shane's on Saturday?" I asked, my voice still breathless from the run. She gave me a curious look, as if she couldn't understand my sudden excitement. "First, take a deep breath. Second, why are you so eager to stay at Shane's? You're there all the time," she said, raising an eyebrow. I stumbled over my words, trying to come up with a reason that didn't involve mentioning the party. "It's her birthday..." I trailed off, hoping she wouldn't see through my flimsy excuse. She studied me for a moment, her expression skeptical. "Alright, but don't do anything I wouldn't do," she finally said with a hint of warning. I couldn't help but giggle at her response. "What haven't you done, Mom?" I teased, earning a sharp look in return. "Don't push it," she warned, her tone serious.
I skipped away already eager to let loose and have some fun.
