Man (Immanuel)

The summer was nearly over now. And I was still in between going to school and really chasing after this basketball shit or just thugging it out in the streets. I was already in it and maybe be having dreams of going any farther than what I already knew was a waste of time. All that NBA shit my sister always drilled in my brain? What if that didn't work?

I'd be stuck slinging weight for the rest of my life anyways. This shit was in my DNA. It's just what my pops did and it's all he knew because that's what his pops did. Besides, I couldn't leave Imani here to do all this shit on her own.

I guess history really does repeat itself.

She got folks shooting at her and shit, in bed with the opps.

Speaking of my sister, I had been trying to get the drop on the work done a month ago. I knew I'd never gave the go on anybody, especially not with my own sister in the ride. I just wanted to know who could be stupid enough to even move without my Uncle giving the okay. It just didn't seem right. He would never put my sister in harm's way.

"Yo" I said knocking at the door.

The door cracked open before it shut close and opened once more for me. I walked into the trap and immediately was met with a couple of my people getting the work whipped, shipped, and done.

"Fuck is this nigga?" I asked walking into the kitchen to find Jade and some nigga I didn't even know.

"Nah. Nah. Chill. He with me. He cool." Jade said.

"You want me to handle that?" My right hand, Pook, asked.

I waved my hand. "Nah it's good."

I wasn't keen on strangers in the mix, and especially not where we conduct business. Jade knew this, but this nigga had a hard time following rules I see. Some shit you just gotta nip in the bud I guess.

"Let me holler at you real fast." Jade says motioning for me to follow him.

I followed him through the kitchen, his homeboy looking me up and down, before shutting the door behind me.

"You know just because you my sister baby daddy and all, that don't mean that the rules don't apply to yo ass nigga. I told you. The Family only." I said.

"Rich cool. Stop being so paranoid and shit man. And let's talk business." Jade said. "He here for you. I just hooked the shit up."

"Next time. Don't bring that shit here. I got enough to deal with right now without you bringing in strangers into our business. As long as he your peeps, you responsible. Alright? Alright?"

I dismissed him and motioned for him to go grab his homeboy. If Jade said he was cool, I guess I'd hear the man out. As long as the nigga stayed in line, then we'd have no problems.

But Imani needed to keep her punk ass baby daddy in check.

Today was the seventeenth of November, the day my older brother would've been twenty-six. I missed my brother a lot. D taught me a lot about the game and how to maneuver through the streets. Growing up? I wanted to be just like him.

The money, the cars, the clothes, the shorties. All that was cool, but now I'd give anything to have my brother back...

The memory of that night was burnt into my brain. I always thought about it. Years later and I still had yet to find the person responsible. I only had a glimpse of the face(s) behind the trigger. Truth is, I'm still on the hunt for the niggas that took everything from me. And when I found out who was behind this.
