Hey cuties, this is just a really short story I wrote, it didn't take me long, so don't flame it too hard. But yeah, hope you like it! MWA 💝💝💓💓💋💋💖💖✨✨💕💕

The Deadly Cure

Cora wakes up with a start, the sound of her brother's screams echoing in her ears. She looks around only to realise that its not real.

"It's not real, it's not real," she tells herself. But the sound of his screams says otherwise. She turns her head to look over at her sleeping brother Elias lovingly. Eventually, she drifts back to sleep.

Next morning as she is heading into the breakfast hall, she spots Soren, the boy who constantly fills her dreams. Cora gazes over at him, meeting his deep brown eyes. She starts to walk over to him in the line for the disgusting slop they call food. On the quick walk over, Cora is debating whether to tell him about the dreams she'd been having, but he beats her to it.

"Cora," he says, his voice urgent, "I need you to come with me." And stupid as it may be, Cora could never say no to Soren. She follows him past the sleeping quarters, through the learning rooms, and into a room. This is the room from her dreams. She didn't even know it was real. Suddenly the two of them drop to the floor clutching their heads. Screams of agony fills the room. Almost as quickly as they begun, the screams stop, and everything goes black.

Then the flashbacks happen. People say your life flashes before your eyes when you die. This must be what they mean. Every important event in Cora's life flashes in front of her. Though the memories are short, there is one memory which lingers in her mind much longer than the others. In it, Cora is three. Her mother's hand is gripping onto hers so tight it might fall off. Her mother is shouting at people. They are pointing and throwing glares at Cora. She is crying, tears blurring her vision. The shouts get louder and so do her wails. She doesn't understand why everyone is yelling. A loud bang breaks the shouts.

Everyone is silent for a second and then her mother falls to the ground; the screams get louder but she's pretty sure they're coming from her this time. Everything is red. And then she is being dragged away. The last thing she sees is her mother take her final breath.

Cora opens her eyes to see Soren staring down at her. His eyes are filled with concern and hers with tears. She wipes them away as he offers her his hand.

"I don't know what you saw Cor, but I saw things that explain everything. The government has been keeping some huge secrets from us. I've been coming in here every day during breakfast. I know everything. You know why your mother died right? It's because she was stopping you from getting the 'cure'. She knew something Cora, something I know now. That disease that killed almost the entire population? Yeah, that was no accident. They created it in a lab! The 'cure' that supposedly fixed everything? That was to control us. We are all being mine controlled. The only reason we're not brainless zombies like the rest of them is because we didn't get the 'cure'."

Cora can hardly believe her ears. Suddenly there's a sneeze. Quiet, but still there. They spin to the side, and slam open the door. Out of the corner of their eye, they spot someone dash around the corner. Cora and Soren both know it's not safe to continue talking, so they agree to meet in the same place tomorrow and then part ways.

Almost the second Cora wakes she is injected with a tranquilizer. She can't hear much, everything is fuzzy. So fuzzy. She's tired, so, so tired. The last thing she hears before she drifts into a long lasting oblivion is a familiar man's voice saying,

"Good. Now go to sleep like the pathetic little girl you are. You and your stupid boyfriend won't be telling anyone our secrets now..."
