My days have consisted of running around this stupid prison on an island alongside my friends, causing terror wherever we go, and using the skills I have picked up from my father to help Jay pickpocket and steal things for his dad's shop. Right now, Evie, Mal, and I are hanging up in our hideout. Mal is sketching out another design on the wall, Evie is sketching out a dress design, and I'm playing around with some cards found on the street.
"So, y/n, when do you have to go back to Dragon Hall and help your father?" Evie asked, stopping what she was doing to address me.
"I don't know; he kind of has everything already prepared for the rest of the school year. After our daily activities, I might return to the shop once you leave." I said.
"Hey E," Mal called out from across the room. "It's getting dark. We should probably catch up with Jay and Carlos before our parents decide to punish us with more stories of their time off this Island. I swear I can quote every story my mother has said by memory at this point."
Packing everything away where no one could find it, Evie and Mal waved at me and walked out of the hideout toward Bargain Castle. Waiting a few minutes, I started to pack everything up and went to the streets leading to the Facilier Shop. While walking in the alleyways, I began to steal items from unsuspecting vendors and people while hiding in the shadows.
The next day, I met Mal at Bargain Castle and began our trek to Jafar's Junk Shop to meet up with Jay. Once we made it to the junk shop, I pulled out some items Jafar would like to look at that we had problems selling. Then, we went to Hell Hall and the Castle Across-The-Way to pick up Carlos and Evie.
Once the five of us made it to the center of the Island, we all split up to take five different areas to create havoc. I stuck to the shadows; Evie started to flirt and steal any type of fabric she could find; Jay stole items from vendors; Carlos stole items for his next invention; and Mal spray-painted our marks wherever she went.
After a while, we all met back in the island's center, where Mal stole a piece of candy from a baby, held up the lollipop, and cheered over this small victory. However, the cheering was cut short by the appearance of Maleficent, who scared away all the teens who were gathered around the five of us. Once spotting her, I quickly went to the shadows and headed back to Drago Hall, where I knew my father would be since she did not like me hanging out with her daughter. It's some kind of power imbalance to her, I think.
"Ah, Cher baby!" I heard from behind me as soon as I entered his office. "Sit down; we have something to talk about." He said, with a tone of sincerity.
"What's wrong, dad? Does this have something to do with me hanging out with Mal and her friends?" I asked, curious about what he needed to talk to me about.
"No, Cher. It's about this." He said while pulling a letter out of his desk drawer. "Now, the others will probably be sent with an ulterior motive, but I just want you to be happy and find your own path. I will be fine on the island since this is better than being dragged to the other side."
I quickly snatched the letter from his hand and skimmed over it, realizing it was a royal decree from Prince Benjamin himself inviting me, Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos to Auradon Prep. In my head, I was fighting the mental battle of going and following my own destiny or going and helping them with whatever plan Maleficent had to get off the island to help my father escape. "Are you sure you will be fine with me going to Auradon? I don't want to leave you, Freddie, and Cecilia alone."
"We will be fine, Cher. Now, go home and pack your bags. Hidden underneath your floorboards, you will find my pack of fortune-telling cards and a small spellbook I used to further my studies in Voodoo. Use whatever you need to survive."
Nodding my head, I stood up and walked home with the letter still clutched in my hand. Reaching my room, I grabbed my bookbag with a skull and bones on it like my father's hat and started packing my personal belongings. Before I finished packing, I found the floorboard he was talking about by the foot of my bed and grabbed both the book and deck of cards before zipping up the bag and making my way to Bargain Castle, where I knew the others were discussing this opportunity.
