-Prologue-

'First Talk'

--

For as long as Calliope Jasper could remember she has always been attached to the hip with her younger brother Calvin. Maybe it was due to her not having many friends growing up or friends that would hang out with her to get close to Calvin. He is the only person in her life who knew her and liked being around her. That was until Nick Clark.

When Nick first met Calliope, the summer of junior year he knew there was something special about her. She stuck to herself or Calvin never talked to anyone and liked her alone time. He even talked to Calvin about her, he wanted to get to know her but all he got in response was "Calliope is off limits." Nick didn't listen at all.

 - -

"Bye Cal," Nick shouts to Calvin,

He shuts the front door to the Jasper house behind him. A car pulls into the driveway, Nick recognizes the car immediately. The girl rolls down her window looking Nick up and down.

"You heading out?" Calliope asks Nick,

Nick stands there for a second staring at her; this is the first time Calliope has ever spoken to him without Calvin around. It almost felt illegal to talk to her without Calvin around but he didn't care.

He looks at her, she wears her curls out with a headband on to keep the hair out of her face while she drives. This is the first real look at her Nick has done and she is drop-dead gorgeous. Realising he has been staring he jumps out of his thoughts.

"Uh, yeah. Yeah." Nick turns towards the road and then back at her. "I'm gonna go." Nick then walks away, cursing himself under his breath. 'How could he act so stupid in front of her? He has never been like that in front of a girl before and especially can't with her because she is his best friend's sister.' Safe to say Nick was confused.

"Wanna ride?"

Nick looks over his shoulder seeing the girl now leaning on the side of her car watching him. He nods walking over to the passenger side and getting in.

 - -

"Do you have a curfew? I'm starving and was hoping to stop to get food." Calliope asks Nick keeping her eyes on the road. His haven't left hers since they pulled out of her driveway but she doesn't know that.

"No, my mom just wants me to be home tonight."

"Okay, good I'm so hungry." She says stretching out the G,

Calliope pulls into the fast-food driveway, orders her food then parks. Unbuckling, Calliope takes out a burger handing it to Nick, and takes hers. Nick nods silently thanking her then takes a bite out of his burger.

"How come I've never seen you around school?" Nick takes the opportunity to ask her.

"I don't like people." Calliope shrugs leaving it there. Nick keeps asking though.

"This is the first time I've ever seen you that's not with Calvin. You guys are always together." Nick explains,

"He is my brother, We like to stick together." Calliope looks over at Nick, "What about you guys? You are always around lately."

"I like Cal, he's a cool guy."

"He has always had that charm. Ever since we were little."

"You know you have it too." Calliope looks over at Nick with a surprised smirk on her face.

"And what is that supposed to mean?"

"You both have a smile that breaks hearts."

Calliope laughs at Nick, gently shoving his shoulder. Nick joins in the laughs, they end up sitting in that parking lot for a lot longer than intended. Just talking and getting to know one another they realized they liked hanging out with someone else that wasn't Calvin.

Each other.

- -

Since talking in the parking lot with Nick, Calliope and him kept their newfound friendship a secret because deep down they knew it would lead to something more and they didn't want Calvin to know. So as the summer went on, Nick and Calliope hung out; sometimes more than Calvin and Nick did.

Things ended up growing quickly, they started hooking up and living their best lives together but then the reality button was hit. Summer ended and the school year started, and they had no time to hang out so they stopped. Just like that. No contact, both calling it a 'summer fling and nothing more' but they both knew it was more but can't admit it.
