y/n stumbled into his house, collapsing to his knees and draping his upper body on the couch.
his chest heaved with sobs, and he buried his face in his hands. each breath felt like a jagged blade slicing through his lungs. panic gripped him at him, his chest tightening.
he couldn't believe himself.
did he really think nishinoya wanted to be his friend?
did he really think he wanted to be his boyfriend?
it was all fake.
he should've listened to himself. he had doubts at the very start, but he ignored them like a fucking idiot.
his heart was hammering, too fast, too hard. each beat pounded against his ribs, rattling through his bones. his fingers curled into the couch, nails digging deep. his chest was so tight it hurt, like something was squeezing the air out of him, refusing to let go.
he lied.
he never cared.
it was all a game to him. a joke.
a bet.
y/n sucked in a shaky breath, but it wasn't enough. his throat was closing up. his hands trembled violently.
he couldn't breathe- god, why couldn't he breathe?
his eyes widened in panic and tried desperately to breathe.
the front door opened.
y/n flinched.
he heard his mom sigh. she stretched her aching arms, taking off her shoes calmly. but then she paused. she lifted her head and looked around.
"y/n?"
she walked forward into the living room. "are you home? i thought you had plans."
that's when she saw y/n halfway on the couch, his body wracking with uncontrollable sobs.
"y/n. oh, what happened?" she asked, kneeling down beside her son.
he couldn't answer. the words were trapped in his throat, replaced by desperate gasps for air. his vision blurred, and his heart raced, pounding relentlessly in his ears.
his mother touched his shoulder. "just breathe, breathe. i need you to breathe with me."
"i-i can't-!" his voice broke into a choked sob, and suddenly, the panic spiked.
"you can. please, baby." she soothed, taking his shaking hands in hers. "i've got you. just listen to me, okay? you're safe."
y/n looked at his mom with red eyes and red cheeks, tears streaming down his face.
