PARINIDHI

I woke up struggling in the morning, my head feeling unusually heavy as if it might split open at any moment.

With effort, I sat up and opened my eyes to find Devansh sitting beside me, still holding my hand, fast asleep.

Gently, I extricated my hand from his grasp and shifted slightly on the bed. Slowly and cautiously, I lifted his head and settled it on my lap.

As I studied his face closely, a wave of tranquility washed over me seeing his peaceful expression, free from anger, pain, or worry.

Tenderly, I began stroking his hair, a smile spreading across my lips as I savored the moment, grateful that he was mine, my Dev.

He stirred in his sleep, reaching out his hand instinctively, only to find emptiness. His eyes flew open suddenly, lines of concern furrowing his forehead, red eyes betraying a sleepless night, perhaps having closed them only moments ago.

"Pari," he whispered in a hoarse, sleepy voice, pulling me into a tight embrace. "Sorry, love. I didn't realize I had drifted off. I should have been more attentive, but I carelessly fell asleep. I'm sorry."

His words touched my heart deeply, he was apologizing for something as simple as sleeping.

"Dev, please don't apologize," I reassured him softly, returning his embrace warmly and resting my head against his chest.

The familiar scent of his cologne enveloped me, calming my racing heart. I closed my eyes, cherishing the moment of safety, grateful that he had once again rescued me from the nightmare of recent events.

"Are you okay, love?" Devansh's voice was tender, his hand soothingly rubbing my back.

I nestled closer, whispering, "Yes, Dev, I'm okay."

Relief softened his features, and he pulled me into a tighter embrace. We lingered in that comforting hold, finding solace in each other's presence.

When we finally separated, I could see the exhaustion etched into his face. I traced my fingers along the contours of his cheeks, noting the faint swelling under his eyes from sleepless night.

Devansh took my hand, pressing a gentle kiss to my palm. "You scared me yesterday, love."

His eyes held a depth of emotion—love mingled with concern and a trace of pain, as if he could feel every moment of my fear.

I pressed my forehead against his, closing my eyes. "I was scared too, Dev."

Without hesitation, he enveloped me in his arms once more. A wave of serenity washed over me, and in that embrace, I found a profound sense of calm. My heart and soul settled into the warmth of his care, and for a moment, all was right in the world.

"Dev," I called softly.

He pulled back from the hug, looked at me, and asked, "Yes, love?"

"Thank you, Dev, for saving me yesterday—and that day too," I said, my voice trembling as I recalled the heavy price both he and Anshika had paid.

He seemed to read my thoughts without me needing to voice them. Gently cupping my cheeks, his thumb traced softly along my jawline as he spoke. "Love, please don't burden yourself with guilt. You did nothing wrong."

I nodded, but then hesitated before speaking. "And Dev, please try to release your own guilt as well. You weren't at fault either. It was all just fate. Please free yourself from this burden. It hurts me to see you suffering like this, my heart aches seeing you weighed down by guilt and pain."
